The combinations for a brewery based in Geman styles is nearly endless. Prost is doing their thing and is winning the hearts of many along the way. Tradition is hard to pass up when it is done with authenticity. Brewing shouldn't rely on the notion of experimentation as a way to appear perceivably more enjoyable. Honest beer will speak for itself.

I think everyone is pretty much right. Beer can definitely be all about experimentation (Strange Brewing, for example comes to mind) or all about tradition (Prost, Hogshead). And a great location can pull in the average drinker or a great location, the allowance of dogs and one great Porter can be enough for the beer nerd. It all works. Time will tell who stays around. But at least for now there seems to be room for almost everybody. And at the very least the current boom is introducing the casual beer fan to different beers. My wife, for one, never really used to like beer. Now she's a huge fan of Hogshead and Funkwerks.

Went to Front Range and 12 Degree yesterday. Front Range needs some work. 12 Degree, I thought 3/4 of their beers were very decent, wasn't a fan of Fate collaboration. *Sigh*, so many breweries, so little beer.

Gotta disagree with the Front Range part, had their Tequilla BA Saison and it was very good, not much tequilla, but it balancend the beer like a good honey ale and a lot of nuttiness came through at the end, I went home with a growler (they filled one that wasn't their's, which is nice since they all look the same). Thier red/alt ale was delicious, especially for being 4.4%, thought there was some random exotic fruit that I had tried once or twice before in it, but the brewer told me I was tasting the El Dorado hops, very unique red, will definitely get a growler(s) of that. Their Lemon Witte was disappointing, all the flavors canceled each other out, but I can't wait to go back to try all their other beer, I'm glad they exist.
The brewer/ co-owner, Chris if I remember right, said he had a bunch of barrels on deck, rum included :grinning:, so that should be interesting.
Their blog is also a good read if you have some time to kill, I like the overall impression I've got from them, they definitely care about the customer and seem to just really love beer, both prerequites for any taproom atmosphere in my opinion.
On a side note, anyone know of any other beers that use a good percentage of El Dorado hops?

One of Ska's Local Series beers used El Dorado hops. NB's Red Hoptober, too. Flying Dog has a single-hop El Dorado item, too.
I wish I could remember who it was, but one of the small places in town made a pretty nice El Dorado pale ale recently. Maybe OMF or Black Shirt?

    They didn't have it.

I thought their "alt" was the best beer there, but it wasn't an alt. It was dry hopped and the hopping rate was too aggressive. It's like ordering NY style pizza, but getting Chicago style instead. Not what I was expecting.

Really liked the NB beer, but it definitely wasn't nearly as fresh as Front Range's, or maybe just brewed different, the fruit really jumped out at me with FR's beer. Don't get huge fruit flavors in most IPAs, that was only one of a handleful where the fruit, from the hops, has socked me in the tongue, wonder if that's a super freshness deal, all the IPAs with that fruitiness have been on tap.

I was led to believe, from the brewer, that the red ale was a red/alt hybrid of sorts, he never called it just one style, but I got the impression it leaned slightly more towards the alt style.
Even if the rest of their beers are like the Lemon Witte, I'd still go back plenty, two delicious beers are enough for me, plenty of breweries to keep my visits spaced out, and it seems like they'll be putting new beers on tap quite often.

Alt is a pretty weird style anyway. Most of the US ones I've had tend to just be amber ales that someone wanted to give a fancy name.
Legit versions could probably be blind mistaken for an extra dry bottom-fermented beer.
In most cases, I'd rather have the "fake" alts than the real ones. Starkbier versions like Uerige Doppelsticke would be the exception.

Wayne Burns worked at Bo's in Pontiac, Kuhnhenn, then Bells. He brewed crazy big beers at Bo's before all the others in the area.

Congrats to Jagged Mountain for hitting their Kickstarter goal.
Looks like they're hoping for a Sept/Oct opening.

Looks like Blue Spruce will be at the northeast corner of County Line and Colorado in Centennial. It's a brewpub and they started demolition on July 11 according to their Twitter. Shooting for early fall 2013.

There's a new brewery opening in the southwest corner of Quebec and County Line in Littleton, next to Le Peep. the name is escaping me.
