Anybody been in to Woods Boss yet? They kinda flew under my radar, but I'm thinking about hitting up the opening this weekend. Westword's article has me enticed.

Peter Bouckaert's new Purpose Brewing is cool. I think he's going to do some great things.

Woods Boss is def worth a visit for anyone in the area. The space is really nice, and the beers are all on-point right out of the gate. Had the NE IPA and Oatmeal Brown.

I see that Westy is going to get another brewery by year's end/early 2018. Frolic Brewing. And Kremling is getting one so that'll be worth a stop on the way to the Boat for a ski trip.

Anyone been to Castle Rock Beer Co.? I'm heading there this weekend for a party. Looks like they focus on traditional English & Irish styles. Any recommendations?

i wonder why some sort of air-conditioning couldn't be done...i loved and will always love Scott's beer but there were days--many days in our climate--where it was just sweltering in there. I'm not sure I'm gonna drink a lot of 12.2% ABV barleywines in a warehouse baking in even the April or October sun in Colorado, let alone July and August.

Kind of what I was thinking, especially the high abv and the location. Not really a walking destination.

Fuck that sounds like my paradise location style-wise lol. Temperature be damned, if they make some quality BA English Barleywine/Olde Ale/Quad I am all in.

Hopefully things will be better than Jagged Mountain. I was excited and even contributed to their public funding. Unfortunately, I liked maybe 2 beers. The rest were flavorless. He did a great job hiding the high ABV, too bad he hid the flavor too.

He didn't hide certain flavors...hence some of my issues with Jagged Mountain. They were either bland or had off notes. I haven't been back in a while, but the beers I've had at places like Peak to Peak are no better than they were 4 years ago. As a result, I don't think Wayne is necessarily to blame.

Though I was disappointed with JM stuff right out of the gate while Wayne was there (Except Ghengis Khan, BA Imp Stout was fantastic) I didn't necessarily hate anything. Since he left, I've literally hated their beers with the exception of Devils Abyss, which was actually really good.
I'm more than happy to give his new place a shot, but I never made it down there for Wit's End, so the chances are slim unless I go out of my way. Which I won't

Just an FYI - I was in Wit's for the closing and had a chance to talk to Wayne and Laura. They plan on having half high abv taps and half low abv.. not saying anything to quality, but I'm really pulling for them. I've met Wayne a few times before and both of them are extremely nice people.

My lone visit included a pour of their IPA which had an extremely noticeable off flavor akin to Belgian yeast... we asked if it was supposed to be a Belgian IPA and the guy said it wasn’t... dude had literally no clue what he was serving, but luckily he gave me something else when I told him it wasn’t what I expected.

I'll say this--I didn't NOT like the warehouse-ness of Wit's End, and I'll definitely hit up Burns Family. I don't find the location particularly hard to get to, in fact it seems pretty easy to me, in the parallelogram described by 6th, Alameda, I-25, and Federal. What could be more central, or closer to major arteries?

For me, it wouldn't be the centrality of the location that would have a significant impact on my decision to go to a certain brewery. Where I'm at, there are five breweries (soon to be seven) that I can walk to within twenty minutes. Only one takes less than a four minute walk....guess which one I frequent?

Getting to the former Wit's End location isn't as bad now that the 6th Avenue construction is done, but it's still a bit of a hassle. The fact that there's no direct exit off 6th (you have to go up to Federal) and the exit is now in the center still throws traffic off. Lots of lane-crossing shenanigans go on right there. You also still have to weave around in a mix of residential and industrial to reach the brewery. Lots of people drive past that little nook. It isn't hidden, but I don't know of (m)any less-obvious locations.

Still, Scott did really good business for a long time. There's a brewery on every corner now and convenience (or lack thereof) matters more than it used to. For a while I drove to WE nearly every week. Back when there were only like 10 breweries in the area. With like 5x more than that now, I didn't go as much as I used to even though Scott's beers were some of my faves.

Has anyone heard when the Thirsty Monk will be opening in deep draft's old location? Last I heard they were saying around Thanksgiving but I haven't seen/ heard anything about it since.
