http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2012/05/new_holland_brewing_expansion.html Nice piece on the ongoing expansion at New Holland. Dragon's Milk is one of my favorites that they brew, so this is good news.
They make some good stuff but I almost feel like I enjoy the Pizza Pinwheels there more than anything else.
I have a feeling your avatar might enjoy pinwheels, but not those of the pizza variety. I've been to the NH pub a few times and had mixed experiences.
Their brewpub is pretty cool. I really enjoy their Hopquila as well as Night Tripper and Farmhouse Hatter.
I hear they are doing a bourbon aged in the barrels previously used for Dragons Milk....I would like to then see Dragons Milk end up back in those barrels after the bourbon.
The distillery is going through expansions as well. Expect a larger barrel program asap. Remember, the aging time on Zeppelin is substantial, so don't expect huge increases on the whiskies until early next year.
I was under the impression that the Zep Bend had an aging period of a just a few months, am I completely wrong in that?
I love New Holland's brewpub, one of the best in Michigan. The taplist is usually above average, but the food make up for it quite a bit. Glad they're expanding out more.
I was in Holland with my girlfriend over the summer. We stopped into the brewpub on a Sunday. They only had, if I recall correctly, four or five beers on tap ("we're out of almost everything," the waitress said). Also felt like we got rushed around quite a bit while we were there. Maybe just an off day, or a bad waitress. I'll have to give it another shot this summer.
I have a bottle of their Limited Brewer's Whiskey Bourbon and it is THE best bourbon I've ever had. Its hand numbered and signed by the distiller.
I don't know the EXACT timeframe of aging, but only so much can be done with a limited number of barrels. More cooperage must be acquired first, and then prepped.
