The crowler machine was broken earlier today. I was assured it would be functional by tomorrow.

There's a 288 oz limit (8) on crowlers, FYI. Or so they told me today.

8 total for everyone or 8 per person?

Either way seems ridiculous. But hopefully they still have it this weekend so I can snag some

Maybe they poured all those conditioning bottles back in a barrel...

I can't get down there til Saturday, so if any of you Lex folks want to grab a couple extra I'd be glad to pay you and throw something extra for your trouble. I'm afraid it won't last til then.

8 per person. I'm only buying a bunch because I'm taking care of out-of-towners. Not many locals will drop that for themselves.

If you've got $160 to drop on Snake Cake then please invite me to your birthday party

FYI, the crowler machine at W6 is operational now. Limit 9 per person. I bought 8 (all for other people). Last night, a couple from Indy bought 18 to take home.

How long do you think a crowler will last unopened? I'm planning on visiting some friends in about a month and would love for them to try it.

I have had a crowler last 6 weeks and it tasted great. I think they recommend consuming it within a month though.

I've had months-old crowlers of BA stuff and it was perfectly fine. Stored in a fridge, this should have serious legs.

I was going to say: if probably sealed, why wouldn't they last any longer than anything else?

There's a bit of an art to filling crowlers. The perfect pour has the fluid overflow from the can so when the lid is pressed on, there is as little air as possible in the can (while wasting as little beer as possible). If the fill is low, there's more air and the beer is more prone to oxidation.

Snake cake is the tits. Seriously it's damn good. Tried it in house yesterday and left with three crowlers.
Any possibility of finding some double homestyle in Louisville/Lexington/Elizabethtown?

A very small amount hit Louisville three weeks ago and was snapped up right away. If you haven't been to Bearded Iris yet, it's well worth the drive. The crew there is awesome. Major bonus points with them if you bring a few rare beers to share.

That's what W6 does. How long was your Snakes in a Barrel in the crowler before you drank it? A month?

They still had it around 5 when I was there. I'd say it should still be on tomorrow.

W6 dropped a tart cherry sour in bottles as well. Unsure of price. Early reports are saying it's good.

I had the tart cherry yesterday while visiting the taproom for Snake Cake, it was really nice. Was glad to be able to get over there, I always like West Sixth's spot.

Looks like Braxton's jumping on the New England Style IPA wave with a Braxton Labs can.

    Press Release:

Braxton Labs is a space dedicated to creativity, experimentation and community. When we opened the doors in May, we wanted to celebrate all three of these with pillars with a New England Style IPA.

And it did not disappoint. It was quickly our most popular and sold out in less than two weeks. We listened to the community and decided we needed more New England IPA in more formats for more people. That's why we're excited to be releasing New England Style IPA #002 on draft and in cans on Saturday, June 24th.

Brewed with Citra and Mosaic hops, this hazy IPA features notes of mango, peach and grapefruit. It will be released in 4-packs of 16-oz cans at $17. Customers will be limited to four 4-packs per person while supplies last.

The release will take place at Braxton Labs at 11am on Saturday, June 24th. The cans will not be distributed and we do expect to sell out!

They actually had it on draft when the Labs location opened and it was allegedly very good (I don't really go out of my way to buy their beer, so I haven't tried it).

I think they are pricing themselves against their NEIPA competition in Cincinnati (Listermann). Listermann is usually $15 or $16 a 4 pack.

Agreed on the Tart Cherry. I had it on the taproom a couple weeks ago. It was very smooth and drinkable, but for $18 I'd pass.

Per the bartender at West 6th last week, the Tart Cherry on tap is different than whats in the bottle. Not sure what is different as I haven't had either yet. She did say the bottle was the better of the two for whatever that's worth.

Well damn, happy I was able to get ddh Galaxy attention please in a four pack for 13.99. That beer is great.

Yeah, trying not to knock Braxton but every beer I have had minus the BBA stouts, were all bland. I wouldn't buy them again:

Maybe I am too ignorant to figure out their website, but...I can't tell if they still have Snake Cake.

I will be going through the area on Monday or Tuesday of next week, and if still available I was looking to stop, sample, and purchase a crowler to share with some buddies that I am heading to meet on this trip.

Nowhere near as exciting as Snake Cake, but Falls City's new IIPA collab with Liquor Barn, Barn Burner, is pretty solid. Priced a bit high but I'm glad I tried it.

Oh just wait until if and when the hype rises with the price. Just paid $50 for eight Alvarado cans in SF.

If craft beer has taught me anything, I am thankful I don't know all these "new hype" breweries. I love craft beer but I don't need to have every single one of these beers because a lot of them have so much cross over. NE IPAs are great but minus treehouse who o hold in the highest regard, all of these hop profiles cross over if done right. Mosaic/citra bombs can only be done so many times in so many ways before it's all just the same exact beer. I love it, but can't have that many changes to the profile and every brewery is now making these hop bombs. As long as it isn't a yeast starter in a can, I love it. Hopefully that means the price will come down too!

Prices on NE IPA won't come down, because to do them right you have to add way more hops than a typical IPA, even WC. More additions late, whirlpool additions, adding hops at high krausen, and dry hopping at the end. Got to be a pain.

The other thing I find interesting is that Alvarado calls their NE IPA - Yeast Driven IPAs. Pretty funny.

Also the hops they use are mostly all new strains and are in high demand. Citra came out less than a decade ago, some of the NZ strains are even newer.

Just back from a trip to the Northeast. Look up Fort Hill Brewery. Fresh Pick and Jigsaw Jazz were perfectly acceptable entries in this style, practically indistinguishable from the big names, widely available in good stores within a small region in cans. Think Fresh Pick was 10 a (12 oz) sixer and Jigsaw 11. They sell out every run. It can be done, someone down here just needs to figure out how to do it.

Scatterbrain and homestyle from bearded iris is pretty abundant in lex now. Decent prices, great beers.

Exactly, I moved to Baton Rouge and envie is in bottles is 9.99 a six pack. It is a fantastic NE style pale ale and I would say is just as good as the other guys. I don't think the hops cause the price to go up like mentioned previously. It's all a cash grab in some instances!

Shenanigans had plenty last night. I'm sure the larger liquor barns (Beaumont, Hamburg) still have it as well. Those are where I'd start.
