New Sierra Nevada Seasonal 2018

That looks tasty.

Apparently Hop Bullet uses a mix of lupulin powder and hops and clocks in at 8%. Sounds interesting.

It's been rated here once, and did well.

 

Good thing that the spring seasonal is out in December otherwise I might have missed it!

 

The 4-way IPA pack contents are there too. Flipside! There can never be too many rye beers. I'll try them all, always do.

 

Damn! Narwhal, Celebration, Snow Pack, (still haven't found the fresh hop pack), and now this? Sierra Nevada has my monies and fridge occupancy this time of year.

 

Ya that "rating" tells me it tastes like a 4.23 (The definition of useless information IMHO)

I'm confused. I thought people only drank barrel aged stouts with 5 different adjuncts and new england IPAs on this website.

 

I actually like the number system. I notice my taste is much more along the lines of Untappd ratings than BA ratings.

Spring seasonal before Xmas.......Why call these anything but seasonal......They come out so far before the season. Will Celebration come out in July?

It's good you got to drink a spring seasonal in the fall. It's almost like having a time machine

 

So is Sam Adams winter classics 2018 readily available? Jeez....

 

I know as a consumer it seems weird for seasonals to come out early but from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense. Having cross sales from multiple seasons coming in at any given time means you're maximizing productivity. If they only released seasonals at the beginning of the season they would essentially be cutting sales in half. The way Sierra Nevada does it is what firing on all cylinders looks like.

 

Again, dont call it a spring seasonal and release it 3.5 month before the spring. Just call it seasonal beer. That way it can be out anytime you want.

I dont really care but its a bit stupid to call it a spring beer and put it out now.

Wow just what the world needs another DIPA!

 

I may be hard on SN, but this is the best release calendar I have seen so far. Looks like a brighter future for them.

 

Just like when Sierra Nevada released this year's Oktoberfest in July.

The good news concerning Celebration is that they brew this beer using newly picked and dried hops of the hop harvest; what they call "Fresh Hops". As long as they continue this, Celebration can't be brewed in July since hops are not harvested until late August/September.

Another IPA. How surprising. I don't know about you guys, but I can't find a good IPA anywhere.

I think theres a constant need to change IPA recipes and to stay relevant you need a session, single, and double. Then you do the same 3 but tropical. Then the same 3 but hazy. Next thing you know, 9 ipas in your lineup just to be relevant.

 

Yeah, I understand that. If the market demands it then they are basically obligated to make the right business move and satisfy said demand. That doesn't mean I wont tease them for it . You won't hear me argue that a revived maibock recipe will sell more than a new IPA.

 

I get where you're coming from, but I do think the world needs more 6 packs of DIPA's that cost $8.49 like what I just paid for this, and less than 3 weeks old to boot!

I'm taking a break until this weekend so I'll have to report back then. Not expecting to be blown away but do expect an extremely solid product. I'm also curious of how well it's received and agree with posters above the Spring Seasonal thing is a little weird in December.

 

Glissade was a great beer, I used to buy it by the case. Troegs Cultivator is the closest beer to it that I have found.

 

It was so delicious. I would've purchased more had I known it would get axed within a year or two.

Thanks for the tip in regards to Troegs Cultivator. I do enjoy their other German-style lagers like Sunshine Pils, Troegenator (even if it is a bit strong for my tastes). I'm sure they did a great job with Cultivator too!

 

I suppose i wish i lived at a time where lagers were king.

 

You do realize that the most popular beers by far are lagers!?!

One of those beers even is promoted as being "The King of Beers".

And just what Sierra Nevada needs, another IPA/DIPA/IIPA....

 

They are pursuing the market just like Stone and other breweries are. IPAs are the most popular craft beer style and Sierra Nevada wants to make money.

I personally would prefer that Sierra Nevada make more non-IPA beer (e.g., a year-round or seasonal Kolsch beer) but...

Lol. My brain for whatever reason associates lagers with german styles first. Cheers.

 

Not to be too much of a pain in the neck but...today's American Lagers were brewed by German emigrant brewers in the past.

Anheuser-Busch had a 'policy' of solely hiring German trained brewer as their head brewer for multiple generations of AB ownership.

Sierra Nevada is best known for brewing ales and they do an excellent job. IMO they also brew outstanding lagers. I wish they brewed more of them also.

 

Picked up a sixer of this yesterday at TW Norfolk... nine dollars I believe. Dated 12/5. Hopefully worth it.

 

I picked up a couple bottles of Sierra Nevada Southern Gothic Unfiltered Pils a few weeks ago at the Mills River, NC gift store. In a few weeks I will discuss this beer in a NBS thread.

Unfortunately Cultivator distribution was discontinued starting last year and could only be had at the brewery, will have to assume that is the fate of another great beer that did not have IPA in the name.
