You do realize CBC toyed around with Conan or 1318 in Bodhi awhile back, right? And it was fucking delicious. Did you create an account a week ago solely to throw jabs at a beer style you dislike? The anti-haze crowd might be the single weirdest collection of obsessive personalities i've encountered.

Thanks for the details; I snagged what I did from their Facebook page which was heavy on pictures and light on complete written info. I stopped by earlier, wished them happy anniversary, commended them on increasing their bottled output and picked up a bottle of Eventyr.

And you do realize they intentionally moved away from that, right? IIRC, they hated cloudy Bodhi because they thought the appearance did the beer a disservice and the yeast wasn't needed to make the beer taste the way they wanted it to.

Just saying, it's a pretty bad example to use if you're pushing the "pro haze" agenda. There's a reason Bodhi isn't hazy anymore, and it's just as delicious as ever.

And, for the record, I'm absolutely not in camp "anti-haze". I've consistently had delicious hazy beers from Hill and Trill, and from time to time from other prominent cloud factories. I just personally think there's way too much undeserved praise for mediocre beers and mediocre breweries just because they're hazy and on trend.

Drink whatever you like, but IMO, if you want to advocate beer and move the craft forward, the spotlight should shine on the breweries making the best beer, regardless of if it's a pilsner, hefe, NE or West Coast.

Yeah we can leave the dog at our AirBnB, we just always make sure to hit up the dog friendly breweries just to support them for allowing dogs.

Are you saying it's a shady area?

If so I'll keep an eye out but having lived in Detroit, Oakland, and now Gary, IN my tolerance for shady is not the average person's.

Us too, the wife and I often bring the dogs when possible. Actually just got the second dog... haven't been to a brewery with both of them yet.

Great rebuttal. You guys get your jimmies rustled over the hype so much. Who cares! Imo 1318 is almost a cheat code. Ive homebrewed a ton of batches that were delicious. Hazy bodhi was arguably its best iteration (for my palette). But it's honestly an experiment each time you use it. Hoof has had great batches and not so great batches. So does Trill and treehouse. I just dont get the hate and snobbery about it. We are fanboys of sugar water, why be so dickish (and you are all soooo dickish) towards a huge portion of our weird subgroup.

Btw and to stay on topic, The Wolfs Ridge Terre de Sauvage is great, definitely worth the trip.

I think the haze caze is goofy, mostly because a good bunch of them don't taste very good... and 100% of them look like shit. But I honestly don't give a fuck if people want to wait in line to drink them; whatever floats yer boat.

A short summary of Cincinnati's Over the Rhine.

South of Liberty street is pretty much 100% gentrified. Lots of bars and restaurants, most of which are very busy. Once you get north of Liberty, things can get a little hairy, but far from what I would call un-safe.

Also, just FYI, from time to time Pontiac and the Senate on Vine Street get Hoof Hearted stuff from time to time, so it might be worth checking out.

If you were to feel unsafe, you could get on the Cincinnati Bell Connector (streetcar) it drops off right in front of Rhinegeist.

We didn't "toy around" with 1318, which is also known as London III if I remember correctly. It was our house yeast for years and years. The issue was, at the time, we couldn't get the consistency out of it in higher gravity beers......both in attenuation and flocculation. These both can lead to stability issues. If we ever wanted to package Bodhi, we certainly wanted and needed better consistency. We felt the flavors were still really good with the American strain when we made the switch, and promptly won a GABF medal. Since then we've moved to a new facility with all new equipment and it's been a little different. Still a constant work in progress learning the new equipment and its utilizations, and how to coax certain flavors. It's like starting over. And now we have some better lab capabilities. So who knows.
    Anyways... that's the accurate story.

1318 is London Ale III, you are correct. It's the house yeast at Weasel Boy, and the same yeast that I've been using in all my homebrews for the last year (and likely for the foreseeable future).

The reason it's useful (besides the med-low flocculation and, without cold crashing/filtering, haze) is that it leaves behind a fair bit of residual sugars (lower attenuation). Jay always told me that was the reason he used it; it made for a "balanced" beer no matter what style he made with it. And to be fair, he's right. It does balance the malt and hop well.

If used with high protein adjuncts and a ton of hops, it makes for a very hazy beer, and that's part of why you see a lot of the NE guys using it.

Best thing I've read on this forum in a long time. Too bad more people don't feel that way.

Eventyr is delicious. I stopped and got a bunch of mead, as well as some more Hadrian's Wall, and another Eventyr. Can't believe they have as many bottles left as they do.

I also drank my '14 Quad from them and loved it. I'm not sure if it's just lack of marketing or the fact they just recently started bottling a lot more, but they make some of the best beer/mead I've had in the state.

Strange, because Cincinnati got this 3-4 weeks ago, though I'm guessing that was Kentucky distribution.
