So today I saw that one of my local breweries is using a new open mouth can for their Helles. They call it, "a can that drinks like a glass." Here is a link to said beer.

Are other breweries doing this? Have you had a beer out of a can like this? What is your opinion of them?

I haven't seen any of that style can, but it looks interesting. Still, if available, I'm pouring into a glass.

That's not a mouth, just about the entire top of the can comes off! :grimacing:

I would imagine it would make a beer with a big aromatic nose, such as an IPA, more enjoyable. At least for those WHO LIKE IT IN THE CAN!

Positive- you get the full aroma

Negative- when I drink from a can, it's usually cause I'm doing something active and the small opening acts kind of like a sippy-cup preventing spills.

    I like it...full aroma exposure.

And one thing I don't like about drinking out of the can when outside during the summer is my phobia of a bee getting into the can, not seeing it, and drinking that bee...this would alleviate my concerns since I would be able to see into the can.

    I hate bees.

This gets a thumbs up from me. First, you still have the option of pouring it in a glass, so that part is still the same. Second, if you're in a situation where you don't have a glass or don't want a glass, you get the nose of the beer a bit more. Isn't part of the reason why you pour beer into a glass to get more of the nose in the first place?

One of the primary reasons for pouring beer into a glass is to create a head, releasing excess CO2 and, along with it, the aroma. This can does not allow that - unless you pour it from one can into the last (empty) one.:grinning:

I am not sure why they have cans like this when the beer community knows full well the issues with resealing beer after it's opened. Don't some of the macro beers come in resealable cans like this too?

This idea came up in a recent article about the new Sam Adams cans. From the article:
I don't know what the people at Sly Fox think they know that Jim Koch doesn't know.
