I wouldn't discount Swiftwater or Prison City, especially the latter. Ben is making some of the best sours in NY right now. But for the most part I agree with your assessment that most NY breweries on this route are easy passes.

Definitely not. I sort of lump Stoneyard, Swiftwater and Prison City as the hope for the future in this corner of WNY.

Yeah, I'd say of all Western NY breweries, Stoneyard is my favorite, just for my general lean towards IPAs over sours. Oz is killing it over there. But Prison City would probably be #2. It's frustrating living in Rochester, with the two best breweries half an hour and an hour away from me. Swiftwater is a good consolation prize, though.

I really hope Three Heads can pick their game up with the new brewery. The new brewer coming on, and the clean break from CB should help. I'd love for them to succeed and churn out consistent beers- their new place is down the street from my apartment, so it'd certainly be nice.

I'm pretty familiar with the Ohio scene, and just want to experience others. I wanted to do a road trip, and my wife wanted to revisit some of her favorite vacation spots from when she was a kid. We just kind of worked it around beer, and Heady was one I always read about and really the only whale for me I know of in the east. We have a lot of non beer related stops on the list, but I'm not familiar with the beer scene over there at all so I wanted some advice. I kind of just Frankenstein'ed beer into my wife's vacation idea.

The best wings in Buffalo, and the entire country, can be found at Gabriel's Gate. This is not up for discussion. It is fact.

I would say that you are right... well, up until the Gabriel's Gate part.

The best wings in Buffalo are actually in Depew. And they are at Sal's Lounge. You are welcome.

Yeah, for sure not. Sal's is not even top 5. 9-11 Tavern also has markedly better wings.

I've had Nine-Eleven. Great wings. But Sal's are totally unique. You want a traditional wing, yes, Nine-Eleven or Duff's is the way to go. But you can get that style anywhere. You want a amazing, totally unique wing, it's Sals.

Well, evidently your buddy hasn't ever had any wings that were worth a sh*t.
You can get wings 'that good' in Colorado. One of my last trips home to Erie, we went to Niagara Falls and stopped at the Anchor Bar after. What a mess. We had wings 3 other times while we were visiting and Anchor Bar's were far and away the worst!

Im not here to say who has the best wings in Buffalo because its totally subjective... That said, Nine Eleven in South Buff is awesome. I love Mammosers in Hamburg as well if you're in the mood for something crispy and nearly a dry rub... S/O to Gabriels Gate as well. As an aside, and as a life long Buffalonian, Anchor Bar never crosses my mind when I'm chomping at the bit for wings, save your money and go somewhere better......

Best Buffalo Brewery IMO is Big Ditch... Good food is a bonus

Just digging on here, looking for somewhere to grab NY local and distro I can't get in Ohio. Heading to Southern Tier, been in Chautauqua. Seems as though there isn't a single bottle shop anywhere to be found. Am I missing something? Help is appreciated!
