Hey gang, I am interested in some input about Nitro taps and what other beers will pair well? Besides the normal nitro beers: Boddington's, Guinness, or Lefthand what other beers are out there that will work well on the nitro tap?

    Thanks for yer input,
    J

I've always been a big fan of Boulder Mojo IPA on nitro.

In general I am not a fan of Nitro served beers. Having stated that there are two beers that I think benefit from a Nitro delivery: Left Hand Milk Stout and Old Rasputin.

    Cheers!

generally, if it has stout or porter in its name, try it on nitro. If it isn't stout/porter, I am sceptical of any benefits accruing to the beer.

now that I have replied to the OP, time for opinion: IMHO, nitro is a way to replicate the mouthfeel and experience of drinking a cask conditioned beer. Why not just cask condition the beer instead of infusing it with nitrogen?

I love a nitrogenated IPA or Pale. We had a local brewery set up their Mandarin Wheat for nitro for us and it was amazing.

Oh yeah, Old Rasputin Nitro. The best stout on Nitro that I've had!

Can't have a thread about nitro without someone stating the well known(except by Guinness drinkers) truth - - nitro dispense is an artificial and unnatural abomination to beer! :stuck_out_tongue:

I don't get the hate for nitro. Any stout or porter I've ever had on nitro was awesome. I don't get any weird flavors or anything just because it's on nitro.

To answer the OP's question, any stout or porter is worth trying on nitro. I've had a couple IPAs on nitro and they were interesting, but nothing I'd go out of my way to try again. I've never had a brown ale on nitro but I'd love to try it. Curious about red/amber ales, too--I don't really get into them but I wouldn't mind trying a good one on nitro just to see what it does to that style.

    Cheers!

I had Old Chub nitro and it was so creamy. I really didn't think that style would benefit from nitro but I highly recommend you try it.

If a beer is not specifically kegged for a nitro setup, it won't be great. You cannot "carbonate" a beer then run it through a nitro setup. With that said, just about any beer can be kegged specifically for a nitro faucet...

If by normal you mean any keg that was kegged by a brewery with the intent of being dispensed through a traditional co2 system then I would say none. Simply nitro kegs are made for nitro taps. If you put a nitro keg on a co2 dispense it would be very flat. If you put a co2 keg on a nitro faucet it would be nothing but foam.
