Nope, won't buy this style again.

For me its the pepper spiced beers. I have had habanero and jalapeño and it seems that they are either way too spicy or hardly noticeable. Had way too many that were way too spicy.

For me it's coffee stout or anything with "coffee". I've seen it done tastefully, but too often it turns out to be drinking coffee grounds.
To the OP, IPAs?... whew that's a big category to dislike and not drink again.

I honestly don't think there is a single style I have written off as a never-again purchase. There are styles I don't particularly love, but there's usually something within that style that I do like - or I simply haven't had many of them, and therefore can't really say the entire style, as opposed to a specific beer, is what I don't like.

I definitely don't buy many Wits or Biere de Gardes, but even then, it's not a never.

If I’m given a slushie/smoothie sour I’ll drink it, but I doubt I’d ever buy one for myself again. Similarly, I’m about done with fruited kettle sours.

Not a style, but you can keep your bloody Sabro out of my beer, thank you very much. If I wanted to invest off-brand sunscreen I’d buy off-brand sunscreen.

There isn't a single style I'll never buy again. There are styles that I'm more picky about though. Like, a mediocre to bad farmhouse ale is absolutely the worst to me. But, give me something world class from Side Project or SARA and I'm over the moon.

Pumpkin beer-I won't buy it and if offered one I won't drink it. I'm also pretty much done with barrel aged imperial stouts. If offered one I'll drink it but I don't like them enough to pay those silly prices.

For 15 years I was served tripe sausages in France because one time I was drunk and ate them so the family assumed I liked it, finally I was served some and told my sister in law how much I truly hated them. Pumpkin beer was like that for me-I tried and tried to find a decent one and just made myself more and more repulsed by them. I love pumpkin pie, my wife and I just made one from a pumpkin my brother in law grew, but beer that tastes like that is vile

Watched 3 hours of World Cup a few years ago in Koln drinking Kolsch on the patio of Gaffel(I think) It was an excellent afternoon and I would love to do it again soon. Kolsch in America is a completely different animal.

Any berliner weisse with lemon in the name. They end up being overly sweet porch rocker clones, and I will not be fooled again. Lemon Days by Swamp Head Brewing was the last straw.

I’m not an IPA guy, so this is a serious question:

Did the Brut style die off this quick? Feels like it was just a year or two ago I started hearing about them.

Permit me to respond as regards the Philly area beer scene: the answer to that question is yes.

A longer response: IMO one of the problems/issues with the Brut IPA sub-style is that the individual brewers struggled on how to brew this sub-style (i.e., did not know how to properly utilize the amyloglucosidase enzyme in their brewing process). The net result in my area were beer brands that all too often were a mess.

I personally was a fan of the Brut IPA that Ommegang produced (still produces?) but that is the only example of a 'good' Brut IPA that I can provide.

    Cheers!

There might be some still in production at a bottle/can packaging level. I feel like it had its moment from mid-2018 to mid-2019. Here’s an old quote from @Todd from another thread regarding stats of beers getting added to the BA database:

“The style was pretty much dead by the end of 2019.”

Honestly Ommegang’s Brut and Shipyard’s Blue Fish are the only ones I’ve seen out on shelves. Otherwise it’s just been some taprooms and breweries that have it on draft. They’re hard to find but a very interesting style imo, worth picking up if you see one

Well, in all fairness when this beer style is done 'right' (e.g., Ommegang Brut IPA) it can be a tasty beer style. The idea is (was?) to create a hoppy beer with a very dry finish.

Unfortunately for the craft breweries in my area the brewers had a difficult time getting this sub-style 'right'. People would drink these versions of a Brut IPA and say to themselves (and others?) : this new sub-style sucks.

It would seem that the plethora of poorly brewed Brut IPAs 'sunk' this burgeoning sub-style?

    Cheers!

For me, it's IPAs...I truly marvel at even the possibility that anyone actually enjoys this stuff! I know that tastes differ, and this is reflected in the vast array of beer styles that exist. But surely, there has to come a point where something is universally disgusting, even allowing for subjectivity! Life is too short for nasty beer!

Welcome to the BA site, Jer1967. Being a newbie to the site, is that an indication that you are also new to drinking craft beers? If so, don't give up on IPAs. Probably 75% of the members here did not like IPAs when first starting to drink craft beers (including me), but probably 99% of those of us now list it as a favorite style. So it frequently takes some time to warm up to them.

If that's not you, no sweat. you drink what you like. Enjoyment of whatever the beer style might be in front of you is the name of the game.
