Am I the only one that finds No Label's beer boring? Not only do they not have any beers close to the edge, none of their beers are anywhere near the vicinity of the edge. I even heard one of their people at their booth talk about how their beers are easy drinking, and then started talking bad about IPAs. It kinda surprised me, but it really went along with how my thinking was coming around to how I feel about the lineup of products.

Don't buy them frequently.... I don't like to start relationships built on lies: their bottles have labels.

But are you a brewery? He was talking about how everybody has an IPA. Well everybody has a Pale Ale and wheat beer also, but you dont see those haters.

I feel the same way about Karbach. Have tried almost everything from them and they all taste synthtic or incomplete. I always feel than ran before they walked.

Their brewmaster went to school in Germany to learn about brewing, then helped put together Flying Dog, and has written several books about beer and brewing. I would say he's pretty authoritative on the subject.

If you could, please elaborate on why you think they taste synthetic and/or incomplete?

On subject with the thread topic, I have only had the Ridgeback and thought it was pretty gross. It was at a party and free, so I couldn't complain too much.

I actually dig the Jalapeno Ale, although it sounds like a gimmick. Everything else is forgettable.

I couldn't disagree more. You have the likes of Rodeo Clown, BBA Hellfighter, Krunkin, BBA Bodacious. None of those are "easy drinking" at all and they push the boundaries of their type of beer.

I"m not saying their beers are bad. I'm just saying they are more on the boring side to me. It seems like they have a line up of beers targeted as gateway beers to get macro beer drinkers into the craft beer world, all except Elda M, which is still kinda bleh to me.

Rodeo Clown pushes the edge of IIPA all the way to American Barleywine. I do love me some Hopadillo, like cases of it.

On topic, I have not had any NoLabel that I can remember. I think I had some pale ale that was clearly old, so I have yet to pass judgement.

I didn't want to, but there was nothing else good on the tap menu, so I ordered an El Jefe at a restaurant last night. Waiter came back and said "well, that keg kicked, so we have Live Oak Hef on tap now." WINNING!

I went to the No Label brewery last year. Did not care for their beers then. Haven't given them a try since coming out in bottles. I suppose I should give them another chance. But if this doesn't do it for me, I think I'll just avoid them altogether. Mint IPA interested me though. Still not quite sure if I liked it or not.

That is the only NL i havent tried yet. But I will when it comes out again. I did just notice they are coming out with a 1st Street Ale or something like that and it's 125 IBU.....

Fresh Pale Horse is good because it is on the fruitier side. Elda M is ok, but I prefer Left Hand Milk Stout. I haven't tried the other beers.

I was really impressed when I first had their hefe and pale at the first Monster's of Beer fest. They were both great examples of the style. Though once they started distributing, I did not enjoy them near as much. Maybe it was/is in my head. Though almost immediately after that I could swear they were both just watered down shells of what I had at MoB.

once again, i'm not saying their beers arent good. I'm just saying their whole lineup is on the "easy drinking" side.

well not everyone likes the same thing as the next person..
I know who the brewmaster is.. I actually cant stand Flying Dog beers either.

Not to go through the whole list but a few Karbach examples on what I dont like about them

Rodeo Clown is too Barleywine for me which I hate Barleywines
Yule Shoot was horrible, flat, and spices were too much
Barn Burner is way to spicy and taste synthetic.
Wise Versa - Something just tasted off and I could not take a few sips without dumping it.

Everyone I have tried from them is just boring or not good to my palate. So many other great beers from other Texas Breweries I would rather try such as Jester King!

And yet again, I never said anything about whether they are good or not. I simply said those beers i listed pushed the line for those types of beer. Regardless of whether you like those types of beers or not, you cant argue with that fact. And if you base everything off of JK, then everything else would be boring!

I don't base everything off JK. I love almost every Texas brewey I've tried but Karbach just doesn't do it for me..

And yes they push the line but not in a good way IMO.

I've tried a few of their beers and for the most part I agree. I remember liking their pale ale and thinking it was perhaps a buy again kind of thing, though.

That's cool. I think it's pushed in a good way. My biggest point was they have several beers which are not "easy drinking". Everybody has their own taste. I'm not real big on St Arnold, but I know plenty that are. I'm big on Lone Pint's beers, but I know plenty that aren't.

I could drink any of their beers again. They all taste fine to me. But the lineup is just kinda a borefest to me.

Just voicing another opinion, and agree with your first line...I will take Wise Versa and YSYEO over pretty much anything Jester King as ever done.

I will say this. I love a brewery that can make world class versions of simple styles. Just an example, but if No Label could make a Hefe better than Live Oak or Weihenstephaner, and a pale better than Victory Headwaters then I would buy their beers all day. If those were the only two beers they made, I would not care.

You and I and everyone else knows that Live Oak Hefe set a serious standard that will probably never be surpassed by any local brewery.

Of coarse, just a hypothetical. Really, I don't need that hypothetical cause Live Oak makes all those great simple styles I love.

If you don't like weisse versa.... I'm at a loss. It's a great beer. Not just decent but really damn good. I can understand if you don't like a hefe or a wit but hot damn that's a good beer.

BBA hell fighter is another shining star.

Rodeo clown is an in between of an ipa and a barleywine. So it needs to be treated that way...

Sorry, nothing to contribute on no label but I don't understand saying that Karbach sucks. They're a top 5 Texas brewery IMO.

What we need is another new brewery open up here locally and try to sell me a new blonde ale. To Champ103 point of making something really awesome, Yea Liveoak hefe is not fair to compare too, but two examples for me would be something like temptress or pearl snap pils. I would buy that all year long not just on Texas anniversary.

A good friend of mine high school here in Conroe has a cousin who lives in Katy who him and another guy are in the works of starting a brewery, they have been working on test batches for the last half year and are doing all their red tape to get up and started. Thats all i know at this point. The next time he goes out to his place, i'm going with him.

I would wait if it were me. With so many breweries popping up all over the damn place, there's a lot of competition. Not only do they have to turn BMC sippers, but people getting into craft, and those, like me, who are having trouble enough keeping up with the flood of awesome beer on the market right now.
