I've been going to this event for the last few years and it's always a great time!

Japan has an amazing craft beer scene and this is the best event to try beers that rarely come over to the US.

    Brewers that will be there:

    Baird Brewing Company
    Echigo Beer Company
    Ginga Kogen Co.
    Kiuchi Brewery

    Orion Breweries Ltd
    Ryujin Shuzo
    Swan Lake Brewing
    Yoho Brewery

    It's a fun time.

There's always a good lecture about the current state of the Japanese Craft beer scene before the tasting.
This year they have Mark Meli the author of Craft Beer in Japan: The Essential Guide.

Picked up my tickets and even ordered a copy of the book. Considering I didn't know about this event a week ago I am now insanely excited.

    Tomorrow night!

I would say look out for the Asian guy with glasses, but that won't help much at the Japan Society.

But I will have my bag that says "RAWKUS" on the side of it. Say hello!

Or perhaps a picture would help! Look for me hovering around the Ryujin Shuzo table - I'll be drinking up all the IPA they brought.

Good times, though this event gets more and more crowded every year.

Crowd aside I still managed to get my fill of Japanese Craft beer and talked with Mark Meli.

    Here are some blurry pics:

so hard to remember all the different japanese names. i liked the session-y IPA from Ryujin. there was also one in the outer lobby i liked a lot but can't recall the name. really though, they should have sold a few dozen less tickets. it was packed to the gills!

That was the Ryujin Shuzo Oke no Yukidoke IPA. One of my all time favorite beers from Japan. This beer is available in NYC in 12 oz bottles, but expect to pay $8+ and pray that it is fresh.

I would imagine it was one of the Bairds. Suruga IPA perhaps?

If you ever get to Tokyo, the Baird taproom in Harajuku is a great place to visit.

Totally agree. I feel like they oversold the event. It has never been that insane before.
