Not well at all I'm sure with the 7% abv and little barrel there is to begin with. Good luck though!
Wow, I'm loving this. Quite the dessert beer, love the aroma, not too much heat.
Picked up some bottles, it is a very good beer. Very little heat but whole lotta cinnamon. Viscosity is still lacking but there is a creamy texture that does help things out a bit.
At $3 a bottle, I think it's a stellar value for a very solid beer.
Huge fan, everything that's been said is accurate, habeneros are so subtle. Glad they distributed this at a good volume. Kalamazoo still has some on the shelves.
Anyone looking for some tasty chicago treats and wanna trade a four pack? is BA morning wood still around? two four packs for something tasty from pipeworks or something else?
Four pack of BB Mayan and Morningwood for 6 Proprietors? That shits still all over the shelves, right?
Well the one I waited in the cold for for 5 hours is on one shelf in my basement. But seriously, PM me if someones lookin for something. Otherwise I'll make the journey to that beautiful old town and get my own in a week or two if its still around.
Damn Yooper must have your head frozen from too much winter.
Something tasty from pipeworks? BB Mayan mocha blew abduction (reg, coffee, and ct) out of the water for me. And you get 4 12 oz vs 1 22 oz for the same price. I'll take BBMM over any stout from pipeworks all day.
meowwwwww....pipeworks was a suggestion, we also have many other breweries but meow.....Spiteful has a delicious DIPA in cans for the same price. I understand the bomber fatigue but before you start throwing stones, you might want to look at the rest of this thread where folks complain about the body of the beer. I know the abductions aren't super thick but I certainly would never consider them thin or watery. warriors come out to playyyyyy
Especially when compared to the price of their standard six pack offerings. The price per bottle increase is rather minimal, I do not see how anyone could argue against the value.
I resemble that remark
I went looking for this today and found it along with Morning Wood and Java Mint Stout. Had to buy some of each... what a horrible fate!!
is there any left in metro detroit?
It was totally a joke aimed at Marc.
I've got some on my shelves. Plum Market in Bloomfield Hills
I thought Mayan Mocha stout was okay, but this beer is fantastic. I was blown away when I had my first one last night, the habanero burn is pretty much gone and the barrel aging added a vanilla sweetness. Thoroughly impressed.
Got a bottle of BBMM as a trade extra today, now I'm definitely stoked to pop it open!
It's very good. IMO, let it warm quite a bit the spice shows a bit more. Enjoy that!
this, I opened my 1st bottle last night and it was very cold, at first it had a funny smell like it was infected which was kinda weird. once it warmed up though I got tons of spices, some vanilla and oak, and dark chocolates. taste was the same and it had a tiny bit of heat on the end. great stuff though!
How did I miss this? The beginning of this thread is pure "homebrew" comedy GOLD!
Holiday Market in Royal Oak still had a pretty good amount yesterday. They also had singles of it.
A little more malt and this would be a damn near perfect beer.
To whom are you refering to?
UUaaagggh god man, I'm having one of these now and it's fantastic. Just like someone else said, the barrel added a really nice vanilla sweetness. Like with Morningwood I wish it had more barrel to it, but the base beer is so good and this version is significantly (though not ridiculously) better than that. There is definitely a good amount of spice left in it. Nice creamy mouth feel too. I might go get another pack of this tomorrow.
Next time this comes out, I hope they let it sit in the barrels for longer.
First post as a BA member! Cheers!
I'll take the original, as it's heat is the crowning jewel for me. But seeing how I'm down to one from 8, I'm not really complaining. I was happy to see it on the shelf again in any form.
I will complain about other chili beers that have no heat though, fooled me once Rogue....with your Chipotle Ale.
I haven't had the original but this one is great!
As others have said it's chocolate cinnamon on the nose & in taste but as it warms some of that pepper shows up of so slightly. I'm not a fan of pepper beers, in general, so I was pleasantly surprised by this
Is this still going to be around either at the brewery or at stores in the area this weekend? I'm trying to gauge whether or not I should try to get a trade set up.
Yep. Been at the brewery for awhile.
It depends on how much Wisconsin beer/NG Wild Sour Ale you'd like to trade for it.
For reals though, there's still a decent amount on shelves in Kalamazoo at least, and it's at least been on tap and available in growlers/howlers at the brewery almost non-stop since at least a year ago as far as I've been able to tell, so it's become a borderline permanent fixture there in those ways at least.
I was just at Mega Bev on W Main in Kzoo today & they had 3 cases hanging out on the floor so yea it should be around
The first Oddsides brew that I haven't liked. Well I guess I didn't care much for the regular version but I didn't even finish this one. Got no barrel at all and very little heat as other have said. I like what they're doing very much, just not this. Can't wait to try some IPAs from them. Didn't I see elsewhere that they were going to bottle an IPA soon?
I'm kind of surprised how long its hung around, still a case or two at Champane's yesterday...
Their next release is Instigator IPA. I'm not sure whether I've had it, I think it was previously called something else.
Sign me up. Just saw Oddside's Facebook post that it's being bottled today.
Got a few four packs for consumption and trade bait.
Agree that the heat is almost non-existent and the spice is dominant, particularly the nutmeg. Hardly any barrel, but I think the sweetness of the spice may be playing with the vanilla and caramel notes of the bourbon in an interesting way. I liked it.
Had my first of these tonight. Cold and straight from the bottle, it was water-thin. Once it warmed up and the carbonation died down a bit, it came into its own. Very little barrel character and not much heat (which I enjoyed in the original), but the flavors are good and unique. I'm glad I bought two bottles, but I don't think I'd want much more. I'd say, 3.5/5? Just my $.02.
After trying Bourbon Citra and Bourbon Black Citra I feel its safe to say the Oddside guys don't like overpowering their beers with bourbon.
I see a lot of comments/complaints regarding the lack of barrel character in Odd Sides barrel age offerings. I am not sure we are all keeping in mind that, for the most part, these are all rather low gravity beers that are being put into barrels. You do not have enough beer to balance out the big barrel flavors you will typically see in bigger barrel aged beer. Based on the beers that their are putting into barrels, I would be hard pressed to say they could do any better.
