I'm really curious if Giesinger will try to have a tent this year. Seems they jumped through the last couple of hoops and are eligible. That doesn't mean it makes logistical sense yet, though.

Or maybe rubber brewer's boots? This may get you free beer?

    Apron and rubber gloves optional:

Hiking boots did me just fine. Although, I honestly never encountered people that out of control.

Yeah, it's a big party, but it's definitely a bucket list line item for a beer enthusiast.

Yeah, I just wore sneakers and also never came across anything that would warrant PPG

Went there often too. Met new friends. Not a problem.

They've stated several times that this is not likely for the next 3-4 years. They are still a very small brewery compared to the other 6. Their annual production of all beers is about 30000 Hektoliter. For a large tent at the Wiesn, you need to provide at least 5000 Hektoliter Oktoberfestbier.

Too bad there's no English news for this but if you are still interested -

That's good to know. Back when the idea was first being floated, all the articles made it sound like this was something they wanted to do immediately. I've never been to Oktoberfest (even though I've been to Munich many times) but I'd love to be in their tent the first year they're on-site.

Haha, probably. I just walked through the tent to check out the scene. It was packed so we just drank outside because it was an absolutely gorgeous day out.

That tent was pure chaos in the best way possible. The Hofbrau was also my favorite Oktoberfest on that trip.

Wow you've never been? Always figured you'd been multiple times.

Nope. The timing has never been great, and I haven't really had the desire either. I love visiting Munich because of how laid back and relaxing it is. Even in the tourist season of the summer, it's always like a giant small town rather than an urban metropolis. Oktoberfest seems like the exact opposite of that. While I'm sure the spectacle of it is a blast, I bet all my favorite places to chill out aren't very chill during the fest. That said, a first-year Giesinger tent is the kind of historic thing that would get me to go.

Not sure which places are your favorites, but many of the Biergarten I visited at Festzeit were still pretty laid back.

Faves would include all 4 of the Englischer Garten spots, the Hirschgarten, Andechs, Ayinger, and Augustiner Keller. Most of those are pretty high profile locations, but maybe not? I figure they're popular because they are really nice. If I was "going native," and looking to avoid crowds I'd probably hit up places like Menterschwaige and Wa-Wi. While it hasn't been updated a while, the BDGTM still has a bunch of places that are off the beaten path.

Can definitely report that an afternoon trip to the Seehaus and an early evening trip to Augustiner Keller during Festzeit were pretty mellow.

I can't recall the Spaten location* at EG (might be Lowenbrau now), but it was quiet -- it's rather small, anyway.

And FWIW -- Seehaus was one of the spots I found Amber Marzen. Some years ago, according to YMMV.

*Hirschau -- and it is Lowenbrau now.

Hirschau is absolutely one of my faves. They serve a mix of Lowenbrau and Franziskaner, but they have the non-typical stuff. Lowenbrau Urtyp and Franziskaner kellerbier were on tap last time I was there. Compared to the other spots in the EG, I'd definitely say it's a hidden gem.

Seehaus probably has the best view of all the biergartens in the EG and so it's always been pretty crowded on my trips. Their taps are (at at least were) only hell and weiss, although they have a cooler full of Paulaner's atypical offerings. I love Paulaner weiss, but I don't care for their hell all that much. Especially with better options just down the road. Luckily their bottled Zwick'l is really good, though.

    I wholeheartedly agree.

Hirschau is where I first saw a vintage, hand-pulled lithograph Spaten poster that I had to have.

A year or two later I scored one at auction and it hung in my house for years -- and will again when we finish renovations.
