I left around 6:45 and it was pretty quiet in there. I bet there is some leftovers, maybe you wont get a plastic glass today...

I was there last night at 10. Everything was still available. I would imagine there would be left overs since some guy at the bar said they were expecting more people. Had more people showed up, they were going to tap a keg of Four.

I bet if they had advertised a keg of Four more people would have shown up. I probably would have.

Four was spectacular fresh but thought it lost quite a bit when I had it last year. Coffee beers don't age very well, usually.

I bet that if they had validated parking, more people would have shown up.

Probably, but Four is sublime. Worth paying for parking.

Is this the beer they brought to great taste? What's the difference? I noticed the abv was a bit higher... also white wine barrels?

I believe they brought Misanthrope to Great Taste. It's a saison with brett aged in white wine barrels.

sorry, but not talking about misanthrope. talking about variant syx... trying to figure out what the difference from syx is. misanthrope is the bee's knees, however.

Just the barrel aging is different. Syx, Smoke and Darkness are the only things cashed at Mackenzie's

The Syx variant on tap now did not receive the "honeycomb" wood aging treatment. It was aged in used white wine barrels instead.

I bet that makes a world of difference. I had the Syx at Mackenzie's and the wood is just way too much in it. There has to be some dominant wood like maybe cedar in it, that will probably never mellow. And too much wood surface (like chipping, the honeycomb seemed to be to create extra surface exposure), I find makes a beer parching on the finish and until you take a hit of water or your next beer. I would have much rather had a barrel aged version.

Had it today, cashed by the time I left... Soooo much tastier than traditional Syx (which I also quite enjoy)... The oak and wine characteristics play very well with the base strong ale. Glad to have tried this!

Had it today as well before the 2:00 tour and couldn't agree more. The white wine barrel aging was just what it needed.
