I had it, and wouldn't recommend it due to the high price tag. The raspberry taste really dominates any barrel aging. To me it tasted like a regular Raspberry Stout. Similar to a bigger version of Block 15 Love Potion #9. I think that beer was around $5 for a 16 ounce can.

That was my take as well when I tried it. I also thought the raspberry flavor was over the top and excessive. But it sounds like @derftron really dug it, so...

i havent had it yet. friend of mine recommended it. Both him and I were big fans of the bourbon county "bramble" that had the pink label 6-7 years ago and he mentioned it was similar in flavor to that.

    but now im questioning everything......

I've been pretty much disappointed with every BBA Raspberry Stout ever since I had Clair's Thirsty Ale from Haymarket Brewery at the Oakshire Hellshire Fest back in 2014 and 2015. That beer was amazing. It had just enough raspberry taste that really blended well with the bourbon barrel. So delicious.

I recently had Holy Mountain's Midnight Still with raspberry and it was really quite good. I'm typically apprehensive of fruited BA stouts because they tend to overwhelm on the palate, as noted above, but unsurprisingly Holy Mountain nailed it.

The Matryoshka variants I've had in the past have been hit/miss; really loved the Woodinville rye variant, wasn't so much into the marionberry.

The whiskey and/or bourbon variants have been the only variants I've liked. The vanilla was OK, but I didn't feel as if the vanilla flavor brought a lot to the party. The fruited versions were complete misses for me. Just as @SeaAle stated, the fruit flavor has been so intense that it overwhelms the barrel character and even the base beer to some extent.

When I stopped by the Cedar Mill Market of Choice last Saturday, I saw that By Design Pizza was in the process of rebranding as Von Ebert Pizzaria and Taproom:

A nice addition to a shopping center which already has Market of Choice and Great Notion.

The move to Washougal for them seemed really rough even before Covid as I think they were expecting downtown to be a lot more active than it actually was and the locals didn't really embrace them like 54/40 considering they were a transplant. This should help on both those fronts immensely.

The move to Washougal ended up even worse for Amnesia Brewing. Would Amnesia still be in business if they had never left Portland.

Amnesia had a real difficult time adapting to the water differences which caused some quality issues on top ofeverything else.

Ecliptic opening a second spot in Buckman: https://www.instagram.com/p/CON4cV4DorV/

I don't drink a lot of Ecliptic, but it being so close to Wayfinder and HotD I may stop in more frequently. Throw in Modern Times/Baerlic/Away Days/Cascade and you have a decent pub crawl. Not as tight as Ballard, but pretty damn good.

Speaking of Wayfinder, they announced some new beers earlier this week:

    FAIRLIGHT - Polycoastal IPA
Big, new-school tropical hops on a West-coast canvass. Analog driven and party-forward. Bright, tropical, aromatic, clear. (ABV 6.7%)

    FORTUNA - Düsseldorf-Style Altbier
Spicy, deep-red, dry-hopped and rustic. A copper-hued, delightfully hoppy alt-style beer. This sidewalk slammer is not to be missed. (ABV 5.5%)

    -----

(Not long ago, someone in the NW forum asserted that we need more alts. So here ya go!)

I hope it isn't a Murkbomb. But, it's probably gonna be a murkbomb.

I still think Fort George should change things up and do a 3-Way lager for the summer months. The first year could be a version of their Cathedral Tree oak-fermented pilsner, brewed in collaboration with (for instance) Chuckanut and Wayfinder.

I would drink the hell out of that beer.
