Orval day is tomorrow of course, and I was wondering what sort of events are going on around town to celebrate the event. I've been going over to Beermongers the past few years, and have enjoyed their celebratory event. They typically pour the current vintage of Orval with 4 or 5 older vintages, along with a couple of other "Orval like" craft options. More than likely that's where I'll go to tomorrow as well

Any other Orval day events going on around town?

Not an event per se, but New Seasons has Orval bottles 2/$10 this week. So at home?

That's a VERY good price for Orval.

I haven’t had a beer at a retail establishment in over a year now.

And sold out when I went Friday night, so no Orval for me.

Beermongers was pouring bottles of the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Orval for the sampler tray this year. All were quite good, but 2 or 3 years of age seems to be the sweet spot for Orval. IMHO. The 2018 was my favorite at first taste, but with time in the glass the beers all opened up a bit, and I preferred the 2019.

Have to say I was impressed by the number of folks who attended the event at Beermongers yesterday. Just the hour or so we were there, I think I saw a couple dozen people ordering trays of Orval.

I was at The Beermongers on the early side on Saturday. The missus and I got lucky to get a table right before the rain got cracking. I think the 2018 was might favorite but only slightly more than 2019. It was my first time having a sandwich from Ninth & Fitzwater - the Italian sub was divine.

You must have gotten there pretty early in order to get the snifters (we did as well). By the time we left, I think they were pouring Orval in tall glass tumblers.
