I’ll let @RobNewton explain because my google search is already suspect and I don’t need any more fodder for the authorities.

    I respectfully disagree.

Yuck. "Caramelized croissants" as a beer ingredient is a sick joke, even by OH standards.

    A minority opinion, arguably.

It works less than maple-lovers would like it to, because the flavor is often lost in the brewing process. But when it's there, nothing, with the exception of coffee, is more naturally welcome and complementary in a stout IMHO.

Again, I'd quibble, but you're certainly entitled to this reasonable point of view like everyone else is entitled to theirs.

    Amen.

    Ditto.

    Good call.

Me too, except when it tastes artificial and/or totally punches you in the face, overwhelming all the dark roasted malts.

-100 Hop Shower points. What the fuck has maple ever done to you other than make your best childhood breakfasts more delicious?

In Dante's Inferno, the 10th Circle of Hell is reserved for these unspeakable offenders. And that Stewart clip, from 2011, is worth revisiting in light of the contemporary political situation.

Sorry to make a meal of it, fellas, but I guess we really all do perceive things differently, huh?

Update: fortunately, the maple in the other stout isn't cloying. That said, the coffee note is forgettable. I'll never get these calories back.

I'm immediately skeptical of any beer that has peanut butter or maple in it. You either can't taste them, or they overpower everything else (in my experience, that is).

Coffee reigns supreme as the GOAT adjunct for stouts.

Coffee all day. The connoisseurs choice.

And they do love us after all (except I’m going to LA tomorrow - the sick local hating bastards):

@rozzom I was about to post an excuse about why I didn’t post, but then I realized I’m not a teenager and don’t need to explain why I’m late, Mom!

Aslin's Bale and Glamping, two of my favorite stouts ever, are great examples to my mind where the PB is the main event, without taking away from the other adjuncts involved. Trillium's PB Dawn was also very well done PB stout, as was Tree House's Miles To Go Before I Sleep. But otherwise, yeah, not easy to do, but when it's on it's on.

He got greedy with his trolling, only way you can come up with that stuff it has to be true to you. I guess that's how English folks do pizza, probably with tea and thanking the Queen for proper topping of haggis while those papal ingrates put sausage on their pies.

For today based on Great Notion or similar midweek tap takeovers, any guess as to what time to get there so you could get bottles?

How about giving me the respect I deserve from that post. I know you probably both laughed and punched the wall when you read it.

I’m also giving you credit on the above for purposefully mixing Scottish (me) and English (not me) concepts to get a rise. I hope I’m not wrong.

Finally - something I hope you will concede. “True” Brooklyn isn’t going to differentiate between Space Diamonds, Space Daydream and a Galaxy DIPA with fruity pebbles added. It’s all frou frou beer. The handful of TBs I know (some guys all born and raised in Bay Ridge from my old job) drink Budweiser with their pizza. Way to let the side down.

Whoa. Slow your roll, Socrates. Hands off of my Hop Shower points.

It wasn't that long ago that a certain poster with a flair for rhetoric stated that taste is subjective based on the preference of the adjunct.

To further elucidate on my own experiences, my parents didn't really use maple syrup when I was a child. My mother is filipino, so when she made breakfast it was spam or sausage and fried rice. My dad couldn't make a pancake to save his life, but he made a banging cheese omelette. As an adult, my breakfast preferences tend to go to the savory rather than "dessert at 6AM". I'd eat a BEC on an everything bagel every morning if it wasn't terrible for one's health.

Obvious question: If I like funky sours, am I stupid to miss out on de Garde bottles today? Looking for someone to stop me, but, this may be a one time opportunity...

I'm sure it didn't escape your notice that the entire purpose of my post was to underscore that very point. But when it comes to maple, which I love more than anything, I find it difficult to remain objective about my subjectivity.

Can we at least all agree that no one—and I mean no one—is entitled to the preference of eating pizza with a fork and knife? That ungodly practice is beyond all possible defense.
