Heading there this weekend and probably will drive. I read the first post about parking, on the other side of the expressway and NOT McDs but does anyway have any other info? Is there a paid lot nearby at all or any tips?

I don’t mind paying, the car is almost a burden but certainly better than carrying a case of beer on the subway.

I drove there last Saturday and had no issues finding parking down Smith St about 2-3 blocks from the brewery. There was actually quite a bit of street parking available, and I didn't arrive until about 10:30 am. This release will be way crazier though so YMMV.

I haven't been to OH before like 1pm on a saturday, so not sure what the parking situation is during the usual line up for releases. However, I would park on Mill St between Hamilton and Clinton. It's free and a short walk to OH.

If you go down Court St beyond the expressway, you can very very often find free street parking on Bush, Loraine and Bay Streets. Maybe 5 minute walk to OH.

Honestly surprised that Alesmith on this list, do they do anything that people talk about besides the Speedway variants?

Exactly what I was going to say. There’s a couple on that list that I’d be surprised about if it was BA, but not RB. But Alesmith a surprise on either one

Nope, admittedly I haven't had a ton of their beers, but I don't think they are on OH's level as far as IPAs go.

Treehouse seems like the bigger omission to me, they do a lot of styles and execute them all incredibly well.

I would have to disagree. I visited the brewery two years ago right as they started making the hazy IPAs they are now known for and every non-IPA I had from them was amazing. Their saisons/farmhouse ales in particular were stellar. I don’t know for sure but I would imagine they still make them.

BA is considerably more user friendly and easier to navigate, there is also a greater sense of community/sharing. Never liked ratebeer and don't consider their user reviews to be worth much, the AB InBev purchase is just the cherry on the cake for me.

I think this just good news for BA because once people feel they have lost their trust on Ratebeer they will migrate to BA for discussions or Untappd for reviews.

At OH now trying out the anniversary beers. Maybe its the 10% talking (not that I can taste it) but 3rd is incredible. Easily one of their best beer that I've had. 2nd is good, but nothing really memorable. As noted in last month's thread I would not stand in line for it.

Maybe it's a palate shift because I don't think second is dry hopped. It's not labeled as double dry hopped on the board or release announcement. I still like IPA's with some head and at least a little lacing. This beer had neither. Funny that two years ago I wrote this beer was "overly fruity for Other Half but it works." My times have changed.

If the number of Instagram likes correlate with line length (and I think that tends to be true), then I don't think the line will be nearly as bad as some claim.

  39. GreaserGreg

    Flocc is short for flocculation.

    From White Labs website:
Flocculation is a desirable and important characteristic that is unique to brewers yeast. When brewers yeast nears the end of fermentation, single cells aggregate into clumps of thousands of cells, and drop to the bottom of the fermentor, leaving clear beer behind. If yeast flocculate too early, the beer will be underattenuated and sweet. If yeast do not flocculate, the beer will be cloudy and have a yeasty taste.

Oh man I was way off. I thought it was about flocking to releases.

How does the expression work in this context? Surely clear beer isn’t something that #lactoselads / #hazeboyz want. Or it meant ironically
