I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, so bear with me guys! My room mate and I want to try out the PA Beer Fest in Nov. Anyone have any opinions on these beer fests? Is it worth the money for the variety? }
are you talking about the beer fest that happens every year down in the naval yard? i have no idea when that is every year but i'm assuming that's what you're referring to. if you're a noob to the scene, it will be perfect, as you'll get a good variety and sampling of a lot of local beers (and not too local ones). just don't go in expecting some rarities or anything. they tend to get a bit crowded and douchey sometimes, though. go to earlier session if you have the chance.
I believe she is referring to a new festival: "Join us for the Inaugural PA Beer Festival November 10th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center! This event will surely please the masses! Join 3,000 of your new best friends and sample 300+ beers from around the states, its like a vacation for your taste buds! Visit us at www.PABeerFest.com to learn more." http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/56824
Yeah the PA Beer Festival is the first I ever heard of any beer event at the Convention Center( And a real good venue to have one). I just hope they can get some good breweries and a good turn out to make it even bigger to years to come.
Looks like its being run by these guys based on the whois and dns info. I'm guessing they pulled pictures from another fest they did. http://thatstradition.com/about.html
Thanks! I think we are going to check it out. Never been to one and I always hear great things about them!

I may consider going, but are they seriously giving out 1 oz samples? That's a ridiculously tiny amount. Did they come into a bunch of free thimbles or something?
Hey guys and gals! Thanks for conversing over our beer festival. To answer your questions, yes we are different from the beer festival at the naval yard. I believe that is run by our friends over at Starfish Junction Productions. We are pouring 1oz samples for a pure quantity reason. In fact, we (after reading your posts here) decided to make our descision a little clearer on our FAQ at PAbeerfest.com. Below is our clearer answer: All pours will be one ounce. This is not a small festival with limited selections, this is a beer festival on an epic scale. With a beer list now at 275 beers, realize that if you sample only 1/4 of the beers at the PA Beer Fest, you will have consumed nearly six 12oz beers. You may return for additional samples of a beer you love! Please let us know if you have any questions! We hope to see all of you out at the event! Thank you, Noqidin Productions
We will you be posting any kind of pour list for each of the breweries? Looking forward to the event, just bought 4 VIP tickets through Living Social yesterday.
I think you could find a better event for your money. When considering the 1 oz pour (less than a shot glass), even if you find a beer that you like, it'll likely be gone in one sip. If lines are long, it'll be a lot of waiting without beer. Philly Beer fest is 2 oz, but when I went a few years ago, any specialties were gone within the first hour and the rest was typical stuff is available everywhere. For $50, you can go to a great craft bar and get a multitude of short pours without the crowds. I don't recommend any fests with souvenirs "cups" unless it's sponsored by Philly Beer Week or a reputable group. - Joe Try this one: http://phillybeerweek.ticketleap.com/bathtub/ It's at the National Constitution Center and includes admission to an exhibit about "The Rise and Fall of Prohibition".
every time limits have been put on beer samples at fests, the brewery reps at the tables never actual pour that much. i'm sure you'll be getting bigger than 1oz pours.
Yeah. I thought about that as well. I, agree, that most pours are larger than the specified limit. I am curious how big the sample cups will be. A 2oz pour leaves a fair amount of non-beer (head or air) space in a typical fest cup. A 10z pour would lot even more meager. So, if the organizers are firm on the 1oz pour, the cup may be smaller than the ones I have gotten. Also, the response from the one organizer: "With a beer list now at 275 beers, realize that if you sample only 1/4 of the beers at the PA Beer Fest, you will have consumed nearly six 12oz beers." So, an estimate of nearly 70 samples in 3 hours would be one sample every 2 min and change. I can't think of any scenario where that would happen. I do admit that I am a cynic when it comes to the large fests. I just don't see the benefit to them anymore. - Joe
