For the most part I would agree. But my (now) wife likes to tell the story of the first Phillies game I took her to, probably in 2005 or 2006. She grew up in Maryland going to Orioles games and was shocked by the experience. It was Dollar Dog Night and there was also some kind of College Night promotion as well. We were up in the right field upper deck, and our whole section was filled with drunk college and high school aged people. They were playing the Astros which at the time were obviously in no way any kind of rival. But there were two people wearing Astros jerseys in the lower deck below us. A bunch of the crowd was mercilessly heckling these two people from above, which escalated to people trying to pelt them with hot dogs. It was a shitshow. By the end of the game, about half of our section had been escorted out by security.

So I did some Internet searching and found this article which states that they reopened last April with some of the former bartenders, but not the lead guy. Which since he controlled the Fiume social media presence, declared that Fiume was no more. But perhaps it's still open in some form? Hard to tell by the internet.

Fiume, the Popular West Philly Bar, Has Reopened … Sort Of (phillymag.com)
So this doesn't seem mutually exclusive from the Fiume Instagram posts.

Looks like CC began releasing 16oz cans this weekend!

They did indeed! I grabbed a four pack of each of the two beers. These two beers are very, very good.. I have a feeling I am going to be giving CC a good bit of money.

I enjoyed Frankford Hall for its selection of German beers (Aventinus, I'm looking at you), ping pong, and courtyard beer garden. It also doesn't hurt that it's neighbors with Joe's Steaks and close to Source Urban Brewery.

I've been there to drink twice, eat once. Was impressed with their beer, and the food was pretty good.

Was Second district mentioned? Nice beers and vegan/veggie food options available.

    Enjoy

    First, thank you all.

This is exactly the kind of thread I love to see and one of the biggest reasons I love BA. I nerd out when it comes to my beer trips, and having some feedback on the ground rather than just data on my spreadsheet is helpful.

Coming in late March to Philly and planning on hitting as many spots as I can in 5 days, so helping to know where I can focus is a huge help. Ill be using this to cross reference, and will be back if I have questions!!

I didn't see the original post, but as someone coming in from out of town, I appreciate information like this. i am far from a shrinking violet, but I still like to know what I am getting into. For example, I know better than to wear my Leafs jersey around while I am there.

Ah, it is not a Rangers jersey so you will be fine here.

    Cheers!

Just stopped in Philly recently, and if you're looking for bagels, Kismet's everything (and spicy cream cheese and bacon sandwich if you really want to go ask on) is there with any NYC/NJ bagels I've had. Sulimays in fishtown as well though is a great diner for breakfast, especially the scrapple and kielbasa. Really enjoy both spots as a dad but they also work well for recovery after a long night. That said obviously there are lots of spots including Suraya that are pretty great.

Awesome, and please feel free to reach back out here when you have plans firmed up! With as much as there is going on in the city and as quickly as it changes these days, people here can probably give you better recommendations closer to when you're coming.

Man now I feel old because I just looked up how long ago Tie Domi fought the drunk Flyers fan in the penalty box and realized it was 20+ years ago.

The only place mentioned here in this thread that I would say is not in a great neighborhood is Attic Brewing. Also Human Robot is at the edge of the gentrification spreading from the direction of Fishtown. Personally I would not go exploring on foot in that area unless you know where you are going. The Temple University police officer that was shot and killed last weekend was not far from HR.

IMO the area Attic is in is ok, but if you go further east on Germantown Ave., you could attract unwanted attention.

Okay, back for some planning questions.

I'll be staying in Rittenhouse Sq area. Best bottleshop in reasonable distance? Someplace I can grab some home beer for the hotel and a few to take home in my luggage.

Assuming your stay includes a Saturday, a visit to the Rittenhouse Market, https://www.farmtocitymarkets.com/markets/rittenhouse
is recommended to pickup cans of Forest and Main. Although not a bottle shop, just putting out an opportunity to purchase some cans from a brewery doing great beer. I believe they are at the market between 10am and 2pm. You may want to check Forest and Main IG account ahead of time.

The Foodery can be a solid choice, although the last time I was there (mid-Covid), the selection wasn't as strong as when I first visited seven-eight years ago. Maybe someone has a more recent take?
