My family's headed down to Pigeon Forge next week from central PA, and I'm looking for some good beer stores to hit in the area for a selection of local-ish sours, saisons, IPAs, and barrel-aged beers. Are the supermarkets my best bet, or are there any good bottleshops in the area? Also, any recommendations on breweries or beers to look out for while there? Other than Bearded Iris and Blackberry Farm, I'm afraid I'm not up on the area's craft situation.
Yazoo (Nashville) should be repped in any local bar or bottleshop. They are known for Sue, a smoked beer (BA) or smoked porter (RB). Had it several years ago and was very good but don't know if they still make it. Good luck and have a great trip!
Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is a pretty "wholesome" area. Didn't see anything like a bottle shop around there. The liquor stores were pretty weak as well.
Good to know, thank you both! I was trying to find a spot or two that had decent selections of some local beers, but from the sounds of it that may not be possible. Guess I'll try my luck at the grocery stores down there!
Haven’t been since pre-pandemic, but their website says they have 32 beers on tap and lots of beers to go in their cooler.
When we go the Gatlinburg area for vacation, we always stop in Knoxville, at Total Wine, to stock up before heading to that area. I have yet to find anything in that area with a huge selection.
Thank you everyone for your help! Unfortunately Knoxville won't be an option for me and the kids near the end of a 10.5 hour drive, so I'll give The Casual Pint a shot.
Smoky Mountain Brewery is located in Gatlinburg and their Black Bear Porter is solid.... Moonshine is going to be the drink of choice in those 2 places....
Was there last year and went to Beer Wine Liquor Superstore in Gatlinburg. Was able to get Bearded Iris and Xul hazies.
