Now, I'm not normally the biggest World of Beer fan. It's just not my particular vibe. But, I can't deny they get some cool stuff that passes through occassionally, and I have to give props for what they appear to be doing this month at all of their locations -->

A Journey Through Pilsners -- basically highlighting a variety of pilsners throughout the month, culminating, perhaps most importantly, in tappings of unfiltered, unpasteurized kegs of Pilsner Urquell, express shipped from the Czech Republic. That's pretty darn awesome.

Worth checking out if you're in an area with a WoB.

I had many of these while I was in Plzen, Czech Republic, a couple years ago. In my opinion, it blows regular Pilsner Urquell out of the water.

ALL WOB's have this on 3/12? Fuck it - I'm putting in my request for PTO right now, dammit.

    Hahahaha, I love it!

(At least from what I'm reading it looks like all WOBs.)

Too bad the NYC location isn't opening until May.

I was lucky enough to try this when Vaclav Berka came through Cleveland last year. It was very interesting to taste the fresh, unfiltered beer next to the regular pasteurized beer, absolutely worth making a trek to if you can afford to do so.

This is the first day of my vacation, and I love Pilsner Urquell. Gonna be a good way to start things out.

How would you describe the differences between the non-pasteurized/unfiltered version vs. the pasteurized/filtered version?

Do you have an opinion on what aspect creates the principle reason for the flavor difference:
    • Pasteurization vs. non-pasteurization
    • Filtering vs. non-filtering
    Cheers!

Jack, I think it is the traditional process used on that beer.

Jeff Renner said it was his favorite on a trip through Bavaria and Czech Republic last fall.

Did Jeff Renner provide you with any sensory evaluation descriptions of the non-pasteurized/non-filtered PU to you?

There have been a number of releases of the non-pasteurized/non-filtered PU in Philadelphia but for a variety of reasons I was not successful in trying them. I do not have a World of Beer place near me so this will be another 'miss' for me.

    Cheers!

The surprise to me was that when I asked about Diacetyl, and he is hypersensitive, he said there was none. He just said it was sueffig.

I might actually try and go to this. Been a while since I have had the non-pasteurized, unfiltered version.

Jeff, do you understand the 'science' here? Is there a reason that the non-pasteurized/non-filtered version would have lower levels of diacetyl?

I suppose I could also add the 'feature' of freshness here as well (@jesskidden). Would freshness be the 'answer'?

    Cheers!

    Great Event! Thanks for sharing.

So much Pilsner Urquell love going around these days. I drink a lot of the brown bottle PU now, and it is very affordable and fresh (Sept. bottle dates out now).

Will have to go to WOB for this for sure. Although im fully expecting this to ruin regular PU for me like haveing a Guiness in Ireland did for me.

This is pretty cool some fresh Pils Urquell. I wonder if the kegs will be labeled The Original, Original Pilsner ?
