Pipeworks' first is hitting Chicago shelves beginning tomorrow, March 6, 2012. (Looks like some have it today.) Ninja vs Unicorn, a DIPA at 8.5% ABV. It's difficult to find any more details beyond the label.

It should be $9.99. Brewery produced about 1000 bottles, 9% ABV ~5 lbs of hops per barrel. Will be distributed to a bunch of different Binny's and a few other stores in the Chicago area.

Also, Friends with benefits can reserve one bottle.

The Binny's on Marcey Street? That is the one that the FWB stuff is all going to be at. I assume that they will get more cases too.

What's the deal with the brewery location? I know they are in Logan Square, but are they open? Do they have a tap room or any retail?

They will have a bottle shop with their beer and some swag, not sure about a tap room though.

I pass it everyday on my way to work. Not open yet, but it sure looks close to being ready to open the doors.

I don't think this is right. FWB has the right to reserve their allotment for life, as I understand you can reserve as much as you want. Reserving one bottle doesn't seem like much of a benefit.

You do have reservations for life, but with this first release you can only reserve one bottle. Going forward for any and all releases there will be an allocation for FwB members and there will be the occasional FwB only release. My post was pretty much word for word from a facebook post.

They only made 1000 bottles, there are over 250 FWB right now. You seriously want only people who are FWB to get this beer? Also... IT IS LIFETIME ALLOTMENTS! This is their first batch. What, you expected 20k bottles? Get this negative attitude out of my City.

I know it's a set amount, no one can just reserve 3 cases if they want. You just don't have to worry about running from place to place trying to find it. You have x amount at the Binny's location to go pick up at your convenience.

    Edit: what everyone else.

I think the reservation 'limit' will vary based on batch size. I also suspect you'll be able to pick up additional bottles fairly easily at other stores - see their distribution map.

I'm not saying only FWB should get this beer did I? Just didn't see the one bottle reserve in emails or on Facebook. And I did not know this was your city? Is this really Rahm? Khazadum don't get your panties in a bunch!

My panties are OFF, son. I know when I come on here to take them off before seeing your posts get them bunched up  ( See: BA Hi Fi )

If you didn't see the 1 per person facebook post look again. I comment on their wall every couple days, and they did mention it on there.. Friday at 9:15pm. Your shock and awe at a 1000 bottle release having 250 people being allocated one bottle presupposes the idea that only FWB should get this beer OR very few bottles should go to the public.

I don't have to be Rahm to claim ownership of the good will and community of Chicago. Commoditizing and greed in the Craft Beer community has reached an all time high, don't support it.

Sucks if you can only reserve one bottle out of a release of 1000 but really, get a life I'm sorry.

I get what I can from releases, being that I give them to friends back home, and good trading partners. So, if me wanting more than one bottle is greedy than so be it. I am all about sharing the wealth and condemning the truck chasers and eBay sellers. If your looking for someone who's greedy or to condemn you're barking up the wrong tree.

Friends with Benefits members are guaranteed 1 (one) bottle from this release, and they have 7 (seven) days to pick this up. Yes, there will be additional product on the shelf, though i believe i may limit that to one bottle per customer based on the posts in this thread. Please remember that Pipeworks is TINY and make TINY batches, and they'd like as many people to try their beer as possible, first and foremost in the city of Chicago. Pipeworks has always been about the community here in the city, and that's priority 1 (one) for distribution. Not just for beer geeks and traders, but people that just want to have a locally made craft beer.

As an aside, i drank one tonight, and holy shit it's great. Reminds me quite a bit of Dreadnaught.

This. A small brewery needs lots of local support and word of mouth to flourish. Half Acre isn't successful now because nerds love beers like Double Daisy Cutter and Big Hugs, but because everybody loves Daisy Cutter.

    Play nice.

    few things:

    - Binny's Marcey St & West Lakeview Liquors both have the bulk of the release and will be available at both places tomorrow at 10am
    - City Provisions, Before You Go & Puerto Rico Food Mart also got cases today
    - Tomorrow we hope to have it in stock in some more stores and will update accordingly
    - If you really need more than a bottle, you shouldn't have too much of a problem grabbing another from WLV or Binny's Marcey
    - We ABSOLUTELY intend to brew this again... because we really like it... and the hops are fresh... and why the hell not... and we are brewing it again this month so it should be back on shelfs by the end of the month/beginning of April
    - End of Days came out to 1400 bottles so we can probably do 2 bottles per Friend with Benefit for that one
    - There will also be special Friends with Benefits only releases over time... so hopefully that's a good benefit >=)
    - Our BUCKTOWN ;-) bottle shop location won't be open until some time in the summer
    - We can ship once we have our own shop open, but for right now, we are 3 guys, one hatchback, and can only distribute to Chicago stores

Enjoy! look forward to Barrel Aged Smoked Porter, Smoked Porter 20%, Close Encounter Hoppy Imperial Stout, Belgian-Style IPA, Jones Dog Milk Stout with Cacao Nibs, End of Days Milk Stout with Cacao Nibs & Ancho Chilies, Smokey Brown Rye, and that's just March/April

A hondo for first dibs for LIFE too. Given how insane chasing releases has become, that seems totally worth it even if the allocation for EVERY release is only one bomber. To say nothing of the friends-only releases and possibility of more in an allocation for some beers.

That was my thinking. Plus the benefit of just feeling like you're helping out a local business. I'll pick up my bottle this week, and hopefully will be able to grab another at some point. As much as I like the anticipation of drinking a new beer, I also like the anticipation of opening a beer I really enjoy a second (or third, or tenth) time.

How does one become a FWB? Was it limited to assisting with start up costs? Didn't know anything about this brewery before this post, so glad to see some info. Hopefully I can grab one of these to try.

Damn, really good stuff! This would be a great beer for their tenth release let alone their first. Unicorn vs. Ninja justifies the high expectations I have for this brewery. Can't wait for End of Days! Now pairing my second snifter-full with left over Gino's East pizza. All Chicago!
