Pittsburgh - New Beers & Local Breweries

Turkey hill brewing is also off of 80 to the east. Really nice place, decent beer, overpriced but tasty food. Right off the bloomsburg exit.

 

Haven't been there yet, but we stopped at Marley's which is off the next exit (I think) not too bad there.

 

I have not but everything I've heard about them from local and non is that they are a major diamond in the rough.

 

Exit before on 80 West. Marley's is in Bloomsburg. Turkey Hill is in Berwick.

Selin's Grove is really damn good.

 

This reminds me- bullfrog has these cool bar-top plate holders (probably a real name for them but Im a mere serf) that some local regular hand made on comission by the pub. I guess he had his own and would bring it in when he ate there. So they paid him to make a bunch. I dig it when a brewery does that stuff.

 

Had a mighty helping of the Schnitzengiggle last night. While it wasn't bad at all, I was hoping for a little more - the body & flavor were lighter than I expected. Still a good drinker.

Selin's Grove looks to be out of reach, unless I swap it with Bullfrog--anyone been to both, who could recommend one over the other?

Turkey Hill and Marley's look to lie directly on my route, regardless if I go to Bullfrog (opens at 11AM) or Selin's Grove (11:30) first. Planning to leave Pittsburgh so that I'll hit the first stop as they open, which would put me at TH/Marley area around 1:00-1:30. Marley's opens at 11:00 too, but unfortunately TH doesn't open till 4PM--sucks because they have a bunch of beers on--including a cask, sour and a Bretted at the moment. Maybe on the way back, but probably not.

 

Still haven't seen Bell's 30th in the area. I have a 6pk that was grabbed for me up in MI but was hoping to find it locally as well.

I guess it would cut into the mountain of pumpkin beer that is being jammed down our throats.

 

Based on what Selin's Grove and Bullfrog have on tap on a daily basis, I would toss my hat in the Selin's Grove ring. Especially if they have one of their hoppy or fruited beers on tap.

 

Anyone else going to go down to Draai Laag next Friday evening for The Plague release?

 

I am going to try to make it. I'd love to snag a few bottles.

A DL bottle release is my favorite kind of bottle release... Seeing as how it's ten minutes from my house. I'll be there at 7.
