Pittsburgh - New Beers & Local Breweries

It bugs you when other people say this, or that you feel that way? I think bcbs is the only AB product I drink.

Legendary Weapons was great, I think I prefer Turbid Nightmare just slightly over it, but they're both very good.
Only tried one or two sips of Inquisitive Visitor but it was good, nice simple dry light saison. The spelt gives it a different grain flavor that is unique. Possibly very crushable on a warm day like today.. And the Tropical IPA comes out today.

Hmm I might have just figured out what I'm doing this evening...

 

It just bugs me the righteousness of people who go out of their way to bash inbev / hate on macro / "boycott" breweries bought by InBev (I.E. Goose) then BCBS comes out and they are first in line and hoard the shit out of it. It's a double standard. I don't care if someone enjoys BCBS and doesn't drink any AB products the rest of the year, I don't drink many, but I don't vocally protest them or protest when the next brewery sells out to them.

Grisettes are supposed to be like saisons made with wheat, no? Didn't think abv had anything to do with the difference between the two styles. That and saisons are only for farmers while grisettes are only for miners.

 

Ahh, word. I don't know enough about the politics, but could definitely see there being a case being made for boycotting AB if they're actively putting money into stemming the progress of the craft beer industry. Though I suppose if you're boycotting you probably should be boycotting everything. EVEN something as goddamned tasty as BCBS, which tastes better in the morning after sitting in a glass all night when you fell asleep drinking it the night before like the unappreciative, glutenous piece of shit you are, than most beers do fresh.

 

Yeah, I only put glasses I don't really care about in the dishwasher. And definitely nothing as elegant, long-stemmed and downright sexy as this teku.

It's very rare for me to recommend roundabout. But unnatural love and rum ba gui are worth a visit. For once I am not disappointed with my roundabout experience.

They do fill growlers of unnatural love. Not a joke, somebody legit asked earlier in the thread. (I think)

 

not quite a beer question, but it's for including in a beer trade..

trying to think of a Pittsburgh thing that would be cool to include as an extra. (aside from a Primanti's sandwich)

just can't think of a candy / snack / other thing that upon seeing it, would make you think of Pittsburgh

Yeah, they are amazing there. They have it everyday of the week, so if you're out this way and it isn't Friday, you can still get their fish special.

 

For some reason, I was under the impression that a grisette was a table beer, like under 3.5%. Since saisons can have wheat (according to bjcp), I guess there really isn't a difference then, right?

 

Mustard is a nice extra to include in a box. Miller's Mustard is local and their products are sold around the city. And pretty tasty as well. A jar of pickles from Pittsburgh Pickle Company. Oakmont Bakery cookies. Local brewery swag. Maybe a dry cured meat from Parma Sausage in the Strip. Check with them to see what products can be shipped.

 

Hopefully we do it again on a bigger scale, it didn't sell super well at Lebo but who knows in South Side. Certainly one of my favorite beers that we have done so far, glad you and others here enjoyed it.

Grisettes are a bit confusing. Some of the information out there says they're table beer level ABV, some say they're session beer ABV level and I have found other information stating they're around 8%. The only common thread is they're a Saison made with about 25% Wheat. Some info out there has sugar in the recipe as well. Happy to see them brought up in this thread, definitely a good warm weather beer which a 60F in February has me in the mood for.
