Hello all! I am taking a business trip to Carlsbad this week and I am curious as to where I should go for beer. I know Pizza Port has a location there, but is there anything else? I will not have a car, so I am fairly limited on travel. Hoping for some little known bars, tap houses, etc. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure where you are staying, but the usual suspects for business travellers aren't walkable to anything - even in Carlsbad. With that said, you actually aren't all that far of a drive from San Marcos or Vista. You'll have plenty of choices not too far away.
Carlsbad is pretty big. Unless you are staying in the village, nothing is walkable. Where exactly are you staying and what mile radius can you travel?
There is the Coaster so it would be easy to also hit the Solana Beach Pizza Port along with the Carlsbad location, and it's a short trip with a cheap fare and a nice view. Just check the schedule carefully to make sure of your return times.
As has been said, Carlsbad is a pretty big suburban area. In "downtown", Pizza Port is the obvious choice. Compass was mentioned, it's tucked into a little mall complex a couple blocks away. Much more of an "adult" place and a good tap list. Local craft fans are pretty much boycotting 83 Degrees located across the street from Pizza Port - the owner handled a naming conflict with a well established beer bar terribly. If you're more inland, toward the airport, go to Pizza Port in Bressi Ranch. Going a short distance north into Oceanside, check out a place called The Flying Pig. Great food and usually a good tap list. Once you're willing to go farther than that, you've opened up the whole brewery corridor of Vista and San Marcos.
Here's my itinerary for a day in Carlsbad. Step 1: Couple pints at PP Step 2: Grab a burrito. Senor Grubby's Al Pastor, California at Alejandro's or Carnitas at Cessys. Step 3: Take burrito down to the beach. Step 4: Realize I should move back, and start looking at real estate on my phone. Step 5: Go back to PP and stay until dinner.
Sorry. I am staying at the Hilton oceanfront. No real taxi budget, but I don't want to go too crazy far if I don't have to. Thanks for all the help.
You aren't walkable to anything. You aren't that far from Pizza Port Carlsbad, or the Encinitas Ale House.
a perfect plan! Although at some point I would work in a visit to BOARD AND BREW. its across the road from the beach, by the 7-11, been there 6 times and every time they had fresh Sculpin or Dorado. A simple and high quality choice for lunch or dinner.
