Full boil. Used the crushed grains that came in kit or at least ORDERED them crushed. Maybe that was it and I didnt notice. Kit also contained a pound of sugar. Did not dilute. I always start with 8 gallons in kettle and boil down to 6 or less and leave 1 behind due to location of drain valve on kettle.

I think the kits are designed for 5 gallons, not 6, so you may have been over-diluted at the end of your boil. I haven't brewed with many kits, so you may know more than me.

The other thing about ordering crushed grains is that mill gaps may vary among vendors and may change over time. If the guy filling your order isn't paying attention, you may not get the best crushed.

Probably too late now, but I would have added DME to secondary and fermented for another week and then take gravities/dry hop...now your best solution might be blending with another batch...maltodextrin is not a magic solution from my experience...especially for something like a Pliny clone.

These are the basic numbers I have run for years and never had a gap like this. Might not be a full gallon left behind but enough trub and sludge to come close...maybe 1/2 to 34 of a gallon.

I would boil 60 min 1 qt of water with enough DME and hops to blend with the already fermented beer and restart fermentation, trying to achieve the desired alcohol volume and keep bitterness in the proper range, thus recover the way to a ´Pliny clone´.
