So I FINALLY found Pliny in bottles - I was charged $16/bottle - how bad did I get screwed? I've put into consideration how difficult it is to find lately and the fact that I bought it at a liquor store in West Covina.

Not a terrible deal, but that's certainly marked up a bit more than usual.

Yea, they aren't supposed to charge you that much for it, what liquor store was this? they can lose their account if they do.

Was there a limit on bottles? Usually you can get Pliny at GOOD liquor stores below brewery price (in Huntington Beach for $4.19-$4.6)...but sometime in areas like Riverside or Redlands they charge $6 per bottle. Never saw $8...but if there was no limit I wouldn't say you got screwed...

No limit at all - I bought 3 bottles. Sent one to the BF and 2 I'm holding out for a trade.

As mentioned, that's a hefty mark up. However, do you personally value the experience of trying that beer at what you paid? I bought a couple Prairie BOMBs at $15 each when they usually retail at $7-10. While I may not hold the store I bought them from in the highest regard due to the gouging, I was willing to pay that and don't fret over it.

Quite a few of the Whole Foods in the West LA, Santa Monica, Venice area get Pliny but very rarely put it on the shelves. Find the beer person and have a friendly conversation about what is out and what you're looking for. They might have a couple bottles in the back for you.

$8 is still too much. Don't encourage shop owners that such a significant mark-up is acceptable by purchasing these beers at such high prices.

Know of a store in the LA area where I can get them at for cheaper?

Any Whole Foods will be cheaper. Since you're out east, i guess you can hit the WF on Arroyo in Pasadena. If you want a different store, check out Ramirez Liquor on Olympic and Soto. They just opened their new store in that location and it's filled with good stuff. Then drive down the block and get some tacos de camaron from the Mariscos Jalisco truck.

Now that you've had it, you won't feel the need to chase it around and overpay since there are many just as good DIPA's you can get with ease. IMO, of course.

Just keep in mind that when it comes to Pliny, you usually need to arrive at the store on a day when they receive their RR shipment. Many stores keep their bottles in the back so keep that in mind if you don't see any on the shelf. Lastly, don't sleep on Mariscos Jalisco!

You need to level up some more before you learn which stores to avoid for certain beers. It's weird that I have to point this out but folks need to comparison shop more. There was one year when Bev Warehouse was trying to charge around $22 or $23 for a bottle of Parabola. If you jump at every opportunity to buy all these hyped beers before comparing prices, you get screwed. Noobs are especially susceptible to this.

I'm that far as well. I made the trek this past weekend. Along with many stops along the way.

RR doesn't like bottle shops price gouging but there's no way to control it fully. Shop by me charges $6.

Douche bags. Turn them in so another store could acquire the account. They don't deserve any RRBC beers.

The max I would pay for Pliny is $6.50. Considering a pint most places in LA is $8, I don't feel that that price point for a bottle is too bad.

That's the threshold for me and the only time I'll pay that much is for trades if I can't find any at WF.

That's fair. I guess in LA you get so siloed into your general area where you work/live that once you see a couple comparable prices, you just go with it (as was the case for me with Beverage Warehouse and Vendome).

Good insight, though. I'm rarely scouring for Pliny (can find it enough on tap in the area), but will likely be looking elsewhere from my usual spots the next time I want a bottle of it.

Garfield liquor is a lil up north from commerce and they got pliny today. You can call them so they can hold you one. You may also find othere stuff since that store isnt well know, they still had velvet merkin bottles the last time I was there.

The most I've seen it for is $9 for a bottle at a bar. I wish I were into trading back when I went to the brewery last summer; I would have bought more than 2.

The first time I bought pliny was 5 yrs ago at a market. I asked a lady working there for pliny and she tells.me that they got shipmen today. She comes back with a case and asked how many do I want. I ended up buying two lol. Of course I would end going.every now and then and would always buy 2-4 plinys. I also never thought about trading them and this was when pliny had real fucking bait.

Where in West Covina? I live in San Diego now, but I grew up there. 16 dollars is crazy, but they know they can get away with it.
