Alexandria, VA (January 2014) - Bill Butcher, owner of Port City Brewing Company, located at 3950 Wheeler Avenue in Alexandria, VA, is pleased to announce his company will celebrate its third anniversary on January 31. To commemorate the milestone, Port City is pouring a new, limited edition anniversary beer appropriately titled COLOSSAL™ THREE. This single 60-barrel batch of COLOSSAL THREE, which is a Heller Bock, the palest and hoppiest of Bock style beers, will be available exclusively on draft in select bars and restaurants in Metro DC and at Port City Brewing Company’s Tasting Room at 3950 Wheeler Avenue Alexandria, VA 22304.

COLOSSAL THREE is crafted to stand up to Washington’s frigid winter months. It showcases noble hop varieties that impart floral, spicy aromas and flavors, and a beautiful tawny color that comes from the Munich malt. This must-try lager was fermented cold and aged at 32 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 weeks. The long fermentation and aging process gives this strong beer the remarkably clean finish for which Port City’s beers are known. The malt incorporated is Pilsner and Munich and the hops, Hallertau and Saaz, to create this anniversary brew.

Additionally, to mark its third anniversary, Port City is coordinating a weeklong celebration featuring scheduled events in its Tasting Room, as well as in the DC marketplace. Beer lovers can anticipate events at Meridian Pint (DC), Boundary Stone (DC), Pizzeria Paradiso in Old Town, Whole Foods Market in Fairfax (VA) and Whole Foods Market in Old Town Alexandria (VA).

Celebrating its third anniversary, the 11,000-square-foot craft brewery is dedicated to bringing great quality, innovative, handmade craft beers to the DC and Mid Atlantic market. Port City produces world-class quality beer, brewing five year-round beers along with rotating seasonal selections and unique one-off brews.

Named by WTOP News listeners as DC’s Best Local Brewery of 2013, Port City has also captured numerous awards: a Gold Medal, a Silver Medal, and two Bronze Medals at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival, Bronze Medal, Monumental IPA, 2012 Great American Beer Festival; Gold Medal, Optimal Wit, Silver Medal, Porter, 2013 Virginia Craft Brewers Festival; Gold Medal, Monumental IPA,; Bronze Medal, Optimal Wit; Bronze Medal, Porter, 2012 Virginia Craft Brewers Festival, and Wine Enthusiast Top 25 Beers of the Year, 2012: Optimal Wit, #14. Port City Brewing Company is located two miles from the King Street Metro at 3950 Wheeler Avenue Alexandria, VA 22304. Ehh, they're nothing to write home about, best beer I've had they do is something called Maniacal, just came out the end of 2013, imperial ipa...

Did a tour of the brewery in the fall of 2012, the guy who did the tour was great, but some other events people were a little salty about a Tuesday nite tasting and tour, so they were less than thrilled to be there talking beer with people who know beer...just my .02...

Seeing the ™ after Colossal was worth a good laugh. Is that really the best name for this beer when Colossus has been a "well known" beer for 5 years from a brewery 15 miles away (DuClaw)?

This is funny, considering I'm still waiting for something on the name of the brewery itself vs its similar sounding counterpart in San Diego. Has it been discussed since any jokes around launch time, and I have just missed it?

I've actually seen GENUINE confusion amongst my non-savvy friends around "Port City Brewing" vs "Port Brewing". An example, ordered Port Brewing Wipeout on a trip and a friend asked why I'd come all this way to drink a beer from a non-notable brewery back home (not to start an argument about notability of Wipeout, btw).

Don't have any issues with the brewery itself, just more of a //popcorn// issue, with Tomme meme and all...
