No one has mentioned Barrel-Aged Gonzo yet. It's a steal and I love it!
Had my first Gonzo last Friday.
Liked it so much, bought two sixers the next day.
Then I found 2 BA Gonzo's today
I started a reply & got sidetracked.
You beat me by 4min bro.
If you can get access to it, try Peoples Porter (and the bourbon barrel version as well) from Foothills!
does victory at sea count?
arcadia barrel aged shipwreck
I had one of these yesterday and went out and bought 2 more today...
Everett, Founders, Black Butte, Eddy Fitz and Victory at Sea!
Anchor, Sierra Nevada, Founders, Edmund Fitzgerald, and Firestone Walker Walkers Reserve Porter are all good options. Alpha Klause was a decent porter but I found the hop profile to be off putting.
Maine Beer Co. King Titus
Anchor porter. Or Sam smith taddy porter are my tops. On the cheaper side, sweetwater exodus is great.
If Baltic porters count. The Duck Rabbit kills that style.
A very basic, but very good porter is: Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter
Hardly basic. 100 across the board on this site.
Saw the thread title and was going to emphatically suggest Founders Porter and GL Edmund Fitz - thankfully you've seen the light!
I'll second (or third/forth?) Anchor Porter.
Basic as in not complex. Not crazy flavors, not high ABV like a baltic, just a very well done high quality porter.
Huge +1 to this as well, really good beer.
HF Everett - Blew.My.Mind
GREAT LAKES EDMUND FITZGERALD!
(I apologize for screaming.)
this one's going down nicely while reading this thread...
CCB Jose Marti
Arcadia BBL Shipwreck
Elysian Perseus Porter
If you can find it on draft somewhere, CCB Puppy's Breath Porter is amazing.
Breckenridge Vanilla Porter.
Evolution Lucky 7 Porter.
2 greats. Breckinridge Vanilla Porter and Harpoon 100 Barrell Series El Triunfo Coffee Porter.
How could I forget? I'm also a big fan of the Berkshire coffeehouse porter
anchor porter is really good too. right up there with founders and edmund fitz.
I would agree/insist on Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter and while you are at it try their Oatmeal Stout.
State Pen Porter.
Founders or Bell's
Pile O' Dirt Porter from Crow Peak Brewing Co - I go through a sixer per week.....so fucking good.
Having a personal Choc 'Porterfest' tonite , while watching BS National Championship Game
first Lighthouse-'Dark Chocolate Porter' , next will be Rogue-'Mocha Porter'
& the closer tonite Phillips-'Longboat Double Chocolate Porter' , butt I would have to name
Deschutes-'Black Butte Porter' & Trois Mousq-'Porter Baltique' as porter's I've had and would highly recommend , cheers
Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald
Duschutes Black Butte
Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper
Foothills People's Porter
3Floyds Alpha Klaus
Hoppin Frog Cafe Silk Porter
Mother Earth Old Neighborhood Porter
Highland Thunderstruck Coffee Porter
For a different twist:
Duck Rabbit Baltic Porter
Dark Horse Thirsty Trout
Foothills BA People's Porter
Arcadia BA Shipwreck Porter
Ballast Point Victory at Sea
"Did we just become best friends?"
I'll usually pick up Founders Porter or King Titus from Maine Beer Company.
If you have a Minnesota connection, consider Olvalde Farm - Ode To A Russian Shipwright. It is brewed with spruce tips & rye, which makes for a unique porter/stout (unique in a very good way).
This one is in my top 3 newly discovered beers of 2012.
Shipyard Imperial Porter (surprise Porter of the year)
Victory at Sea
Love Troegs. Love Dead Reckoning. But this is barely a porter. So hoppy. Black IPA is more like it.
