The real highlight of the night was Chad's dip. Where's the pic of that?
Me and Mag00n had a two man show with a little help from our better halfs last night.
Thank you sir
I wanna know more about the dip!
Nice lineup! Any outstanding ones to note or disappointments?
Nooner was fantastic wish I had more of it, Rarer dos was good too. The Flaming Fury was very nice but the fruit is pretty faded althougb its still detectable. The 04 marriage parfait was pretty good but kinda plain not too much change from newer ones. Cherry rye was super sweet, boozy and fruity. My wife liked Abyss 10 the best she liked the smoke its taken on and the char/ash has def picked up and dropped the choc/coffee and licorice compared to fresh. SitR was super acidic and kinda boring. EH was just a solid ba imp stout. Fou foune was fou foune. Castleton continues to be one of the best american made sours ive ever had.
Great weekend trip with JordanPP and some lovely beer!
Here's a pictue and list from what probably is the most epic tasting I've been a part of. Team NJ assembled at my place over the weekend to open our boxes from Team Buffalo for the Gang Bang BIF as well as pack up our boxes. Due to one team member not being able to be there, we held off on drinking the boxes from Buffalo and banged ourselves instead. Thanks to everyone who contributed bottles, I had an amazing time and I hope all of you did as well. Cheers!

How was the Lawson's maple barrel stout?
Really good beer, but I personally enjoyed the Hill Farmstead Birth Of Tragedy over all of the other bottles.
I attempted to edit this with all the names of the beer, but it timed out. I'm not doing it again.
The BCBCS and BCBVS are both 2010...as is the Abyss.
Boulevard BBQ is 2008, and Saison-Brett is 2009.
NBC Black Betty is 2009. Chocolate Yeti is 2010.
Not an event, but I'm pouring these tonight for our friends at our usual weekly beer gathering in a blind taste test. The impetus for this was one of my friends posting something about The Czar on my Facebook wall and me reminding him he'd had it before when I shared a bottle. He didn't recall so I decided to bust out some standard RIS beers for tonight.
The Avery Czar is a 2009 and the Ten Fidy is a 2010.
Ahhhhhh, no thanks,
I do frequent tastings (better known as 'research') with the friend I brew with. Occasionally we do specialty tastings with other people. This is from 'Alpha Klausmas' night, probably my favorite tasting, where we did a 'horizontal' of different BA Klaus.
This was my recent tasting. The little guy on the left did not drink too much I am the one in the orange shirt. There is a carboy of my homebrew (not ready to sample) on the kitchen counter. The idea behind this sampling was the exact opposite of whale hunting. I was introducing these guys, friends of mine, to the intriguing world of beer.
I introduced them to the four (main) ingredients to beer. Talked about how each of those affects the final taste of a beer. I got to talk about beer for a few hours and they got to sample many different styles and get a good feel for each of those. You can't see it, but there are three issues of BA on the table along with How To Brew (Palmer), Naked Pint, and Tasting Beer (Mosher).

The BCBS vertical (plus the Rare) we had set up as a blind tasting thanks to the help of some of the ladies at the party. None of us had had Rare so we didn't realize how obvious it would be to distinguish (especially on the nose) from the other bottles hah. For the hell of it, here were my results from the test, with ratings on a 1-5 scale
Vintage guesses and rating
A / Rare / 5
B / 2007 / 4
C / 2011 / 5
D / 2008 / 4
E / 2012 / 5
F / 2006 / 2
G / 2010 / 4
H / 2009 / 5
A - Rare
B - 2006
C - 2008
D - 2011
E - 2012
F - 2007
G - 2010
H - 2009
We had a trade set up for an '05 as well but it fell through at the very last minute, which is sad because everyone expected '06 to be fairly bad at this point, but it still held it's own. Oddly the '07 bottle was pretty damn awful, which was not my experience at Darkness Day when I last had one. Curious how the '05 would have held up.
Setting up the blind BCBS tasting
Blind tasting in progress
Clamoring for the last of the Rare.
The difference in appearance, smell and taste of the 2010 and 2012 Madame Rose was very evident. While the '12 is good on its own, it doesn't hold a candle to '10. Maybe they were brewed differently, but I would recommend holding on to your '12s for a year or two. Huge difference.
Bramble vs Cherry Rye. The group seemed pretty split on the preference between the two.
Hmm seemed to have forgotten the '09 in this pic.
EVERYONE expected '10 coffee to be so muted that it would be nothing more than regular bourbon county. It in fact turned out to be the favorite of some of the group. The coffee had surely faded somewhat since 2010, but in my opinion not in a bad way at all. The '12 had the strongest coffee flavor but it was almost too much. I personally preferred the '11, with '10 as a close second.
Outstanding, thanks for sharing.
Last night at beachwood pulled off a mini Consecration flight batch 001-003. My ranking was 003,001,002. My buddy was 002,001,003. 002 is well balanced right now, 001 a tad more tart and 003 still has plenty of sour. Washed them down with BBQ nachos and burgers.
i didn't make it as late as you guys did, but i was there for this part:
gotta say as great as the beers were, once again, they were 2ndary to the company. really great time...big thanks to chicago (eorwar, kevanb, pmoney, stxSS07, Treebs) for such a good time!

Some unknown year. This was a really cool beer. Tasted like horseradish.
Monthly tasting with co-workers.
Not a great picture, but this was our Texas BottleShare at the Jester King 2nd Anniversary Party
Not my photo, but here is another look at that table. More than 100 bottles total, all before we then dipped into the Jester King offerings. Fantastic day in central TX.

I received a few gifts, including a boxed bottle of Rare and JW Gold Label from pokgye. I turned him down, but he insisted. Toward the end of the tasting, a couple of people asked if I could open the Rare, since they hadn't had it. I took it out of the box and walked across the bar toward pokgye, who saw me coming and turned his back.
Oh shit... Reading his body language, it's a gift, he doesn't want me to open it. - my thought
"Hey, I know this is a gift, but is it all right with you if I share it?" - Me
*Still looking away, noncommittal shrug* - Him
Damn, he must be a bit pissed. Well, too late to back out, I guess. - my thought
*I remove the cover from the cap*
Wait, I don't remember Rare having a paper cap cover.
*I look down at the cap*
Why is the cap white?
*I look closer*
You haven't lived until you've had 20+ people at a bar laughing at the look of fear and despair etched on your face.
Ha did this right before our wedding in Sonoma
Just to put this in another place.
