Picked up two mixed 6 packs of rauchbiers at Live Oak’s Rauchfest today.



Schwarzer Rauch, Heller Rauch, Fumigator Smoked Doppelbock, Bamberger, Grodziskie, and Weißer Rauch. Fumigator and Weißer Rauch are both new this year so I’m excited to try both. I love Live Oak’s Grodziskie but I thought it was strange to include this from their regular lineup when they could have included Smoaktoberfest which they had at the brewery in cans and on tap but maybe in lower supply? Regardless it’s a very minor complaint.

Wow, this smoked beer variety pack is insane. So glad Live Oak are brave enough to put one out.

Alright. What did it take to get that KBBS, and also, do you know what TG were charging for it?

 

it was $100 retail but it came with ‘regular’ KBBS (also $100) so $200 for the set.

that trade yesterday was MJK + TWCP Continuance for the 3 bottles pictured above.

 

Ever since Stone announced the return of Ruination in non-mixed packs I'd been eagerly tracking it on their beer finder, waiting for it to make its way to Austin, TX.

After a while it wasn't anywhere in the state of Texas until last week when it first appeared in Houston, then in San Antonio, and finally on Friday, in Austin. Only 1 store was listed, though, and it was a bit of of my way, so I unfortunately hadn't been able to make it over there yet to buy any.

Queue this morning when a local grocery store less than 5 miles away finally had it listed, though Stone's website indicated that it was actually delivered last Friday, but hadn't been updated yet on their beer finder.

Fortunately it was still there this morning, and they still had about 5-6 of the 6 packs left.

Do you guys think I like Ruination much?



The only tough part about my decision was A) how many 6 packs can I buy and reasonably fit in the fridge before my wife makes a comment, and B) whether to buy any of the 4 packs of Willetized, another weakness of mine, that I would have purchased if I wasn't already walking out with 18 other beers.

Can't wait to crack one open tonight. Hoping it lives up to my memory of what used to be one of my all-time favorite beers.

Cheers to Stone for rebrewing this, Ruination for being itself (hopefully more ore less unchanged, though I did note this is a slightly different formula), and classic WCIPAs!

Did I just invent Pastry Quad, or was that already a thing?

 

Got a much belated Christmas gift (beer box) today. Needless to say Covid had a lot to do with the timing. All German brews. My guess is a few folks on BA recognize the box.

 

It only takes two days to drink 12 German beers.

Good variety of styles!

 

If it was like last Saturday it would take just one night (although six of the 12 were glasses of wine).

 

The Snowblind is pleasant- Worth a try if you ever get the opportunity (the barrel-aged version is tasty as well). It's actually one of my brother's favorite brews, so I stockpile it for when he visits

You're right, and I'm already planning on making another trip to pick up more Ruination and Willetized. I "only" have 5-6 Willetized left and need to re-stock before the 2022 supply completely disappears from shelves.

My wife (who doesn't usually drink IPAs) also drank 2 of the Ruinations last night, so I'm already down 3. I was impressed by how well its flavor profile seems to have held up over time.

...I love smoked beers...Brauerei Heller-Trum is the gold standard for me for smoked beers, but a local brewery (Cerberus) occasionally makes a grodziskie that is fantastic ...someday I hope to try some Live Oak examples...Mrs. BeerGoot and I want to go back to the Hill Country, so it sounds like a brewery stop may be quite doable...

 

...I'd love to see a BA Extreme Box featuring smoked beers...

 

Where are you that you get Newburgh Brown? I’ve tried to track it down with no luck, even called their distributor for NJ, they weren’t any help at all unfortunately.

Last exit in NJ right before NY state theres a wegmans right by the exit. Has a liquor store attached,thats where I found it. What part of NJ are you located in??I can pick some up Friday if they still have it

@HoppingMadMonk I'm in South Jersey about 12 miles from Philly...thanks for the recon if Wegman's can get it I'm guessing the one close to me may be able to order some in. I may give them a call and see what they say, I've wanted to try that one for a long time now. If I have success you'll know in the form of this thread at some point
