I legitimately have no idea what cork and cap is. I googled and no luck. I've only ever heard and seen cork and cage like with Champagne.

Are you saying Champagne is supposed to be stores upright? I have not seen that before.

This has been debated endlessly, & apparently there is no right or wrong. The opinions on both sides for both types of bottles (capped vs. corked) have been so thoroughly confused in my head that I no longer care.

I store everything upright. My oldest bottles have passed the ten year mark in my possession & no problems so far. That's good enough for me.

Sounds great! The oldest bottles in my possession are from 2014.

Some bottles have a cork that is flush with the top of the bottle and also have a regular cap. The ones you are probably most familiar with, the cork sticks above the top of the bottle and has a cage.

Thanks so much. I have definitely never seen that.

What's the motivation to cork and cap? I suppose I do not understand enough about cellaring.

I am really not sure why the difference, the only bottle I've had like that was a Fou Foune recently, which was delicious by the way. It was stored upright and I believe the cork actually broke when I was taking it out. Got the rest out okay but going by just that experience, seems like maybe the Cork & Cap should be stored on it's side and Cap & Cage either way since you can grab the top and pull it out without as much worry of breakage. But, I don't really know, not a wine guy or sour expert by any means.

Some of my favorites from the cellar. Far left is 1974 and far right is 2016. Variety of years in the middle.

Holy cow!!! Awesome Post! Thanks for sharing!

If you don't mind me asking, how far back did you begin accumulating?

I am also now cross-threading, but do you have a "most prized beer" in your cellar?

Didnt start proper cellaring until somewhere beginning 2016 so there aren't many "old" bottles.

    oldest one(s) i still have is 2010
most range in the 2015 - 2016 region
