Prairie Birthday Bomb

I finally tried Birthday Bomb! and found it lacking in comparison to standard Bomb! and Pirate Bomb! It had no head, little carbonation, not much for peppers, boozy, sweet, and overall a disappointment.

 

Found lots in Overland Park area of Kansas City, brought 2 back. I liked it a lot, but I like rich, boozy stouts.

 

I know it's not Birthday Bomb but, anyone see Apple Brandy Barrel Noir out there yet?

 

Haven't seen it in Chicago yet.

 

Hit shelves in Tulsa today.

 

No...it is like Bomb, with a different name, and $2 more per bottle. Brilliant

 

Saw it on a shelf on two different occasions. No thanks, Shelton Brothers.

 

Yeah, it's still hanging around in Chicago. Been at Whole Foods on Huron with no limit since release day. I think they told me they got three cases so it's moving sloowwwlllyyy.

 

Finally hit south Florida. Picked up a bottle

 

3+ cases of it have been sitting in Total Wine by my apartment for weeks. I'm not a huge Bomb! fan but got one for the hell of it. I do feel bad that I've been regularly passing on it when others throughout the country are actively hunting it...

 

found it in a crap hole of a store in Pensacola, FL two weeks ago. Guy had Fat Heads IPA's in there that were from October last year......

 

Right?? I thought about saving my Birthday Bomb for a while, but had it this morning. Very, very similar to Bomb. At first I thought I'd try to track down another, but it's not worth it.

I tend to overrate beers on here, but I don't know that I've ever overrated a single Bomb variant. They don't even perform out of the bottle, i.e. form a good sized head.

It's tough to step off the hype train.... The thought in my mind is as soon as I step off, they'll actually make a variant worth the upcharge. Birthday Bomb is getting some good reviews around here. I don't see how that's possible when it should be scored a 3.25 at best for appearance (no head at all; poured straight into glass; stored in the fridge from time of purchase to serve date).

 

i saw it being put out a couple weeks ago at bitter pops on lincoln prob around the time of your post. so it def made it to chicago around then. hopefully you found some.
