I've traded a few bombs with fellow BA's and with this cold weather I'm always checking for any beers that have expanded during shipment and leaked. Almost every bottle I've checked has some beer residue under the wax and a little beer smell is apparent. Is this something everyone has encountered or are these bottles leaking during shipment? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Prairie Noir I bought off the shelf in Tulsa had the same issue. Pirate Bomb as well.

had some beer leaking through a hole in the wax on a Pirate Bomb. Opened it up and it tasted fine, no oxidation.

I have not experienced this myself but have seen a few posts on here about the same thing. Seems to just be a side effect of the way they are capping and waxing the bottles. Doesn't appear to be anything to worry about.

This, seems to plague most all of their bottles.

A friend in OK who's been drinking tons of the Noir and Vanilla Noir says that almost all of them have rust under the cap at this point.

Make me cautious to age them at all.

Not a scientist, just spit-balling here, but from what I understand rust is oxygen+moisture. The headspace in your beer should be mostly CO2 so I think you're relatively safe from rust getting inside the cap. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. It has happened to a lot of my Alesmith bottles as well.

Perhaps the bottles are being waxed with condensation on them?

this is the most likely scenario.

I'm seeing more of what looks like and smells like beer under the cap.
