I was just using this forum to shame my source. That's all. Yay for 12 oz bottles!

Although I like my BA beers to be a hint of barrel and more beer, I agree with what you're saying.

I'm in the minority here for sure but although I find some of Prairie's beers very good, their price point prevents me from wanting to buy them. I really liked funky mosaic gold, but for $9 a 16 oz bottle, I only liked the one bottle I bought. I'm passing on Cherry Funk because I'm assuming I'll be underwhelmed and it's $13.

I agree the prices can get somewhat steep considering plenty of other breweries are churning out similar/better beers of the same style for less $$, but why are you assuming you'll be underwhelmed (or does that tie in with the price - I think I paid 11.xx each fwiw)

People I know that have had it haven't been particularly impressed and my general feelings towards Prairie is that they make solid beers, but I haven't been blown away by anything I've had from them, with maybe the exception of Funky Mosaic. Their beers being solid doesn't justify their price point.

and when enough people come to this realization, the prices will become more rational.

    maybe.

Price points matter but unfortunately my wallet isn't bias and my taste buds care more. Its only the morning after a long holiday weekend when I realize what I've done....3 cherry funks, 1 fgm, 1 vanilla noir, 1 coffee noir = $$$$ shit lets not add the Jolly Pumpkin and Jester Kings consumed this weekend too.

You would be underwhelmed. Had CF at Petrol to avoid committing the $ to a bottle and found it to be extremely sub par. A bit funky but no real cherries, definitely not sour, someone mentioned a metallic like taste and I got some of that. Honestly didn't enjoy finishing the glass....

Agreed. I tasted almost no cherry and very little funk. Not worth the $11 I paid @ HEB. Funky Mosaic was delicious IMO, but again, not worth the $10 I paid for the 500ml. I also agree with you previous posts about the Noirs having almost no barrel presence. They aren't worth the $10 per 12oz to me anymore. Bomb isn't worth anywhere near $10 per 12oz to me when there is stuff like TenFidy out there for $3.75/can. Its been fun Prairie, but I'm pretty much done with your overpriced product.

Yeah and now I've heard the metallic taste issue from a few more people. Wonder what's up with that?

Yall are all nuts. enjoyed the shit out of cherry funk just now. plenty of cherry and nicely balanced sour. and craft beer prices are gonna continue to rise as it increases in popularity(and more involved techniques are used) so get used to it. If you guys want cheap beer I hear walgreens has some beer thirty on special. Paying a little extra for a CRAFTED beer is the equivalent of shopping at a mom and pop store to support your community. So quit your bitching and quit making up reasons to not like a beers taste because you had to spend your lunch money to drink it.

Have to disagree on all points my man.

I myself just finished a Cherry Funk and experienced nothing I would consider cherry. Also, to echo others, I wasn't thrilled with the lack of funk/sourness. Didn't have that slight puckering quality to it that I've grown to enjoy out of a sour. I followed it up with a JK Nocturn Chrysalis...the Cherry Funk didn't hold it's water compared to Noccturn. Even though the blackberry is subtle, it had the a great sour quality to it. That's to be expected with anything from Jester King.

As for pricing: to each their own, but craft doesn't have to mean outrageously overpriced. Several higher quality breweries are pumping out tons of higher quality, better priced beers than Prairie. Now I'm a fan of prairie, their stouts and Birra in particular, but they're overpriced. I don't think there is any arguing that when you consider what else is out there.

    Just my .02!

You and prairie should enter a spelling bee together...

that was the point of spelling it that way. their label goof. good try though.

Well now we are comparing something that was $16 a bottle and brewery only, to something that saw fairly decent distro(local HEBs got it) and $11-13 a bottle. Jester King is able to put obscene amounts of fruit in their beer at that price. And I gladly pay it. But in all fairness hell yes I would love to see lower prices. I just dont expect it. also Nocturn is one of my favorite beers ever, so thats just not fair.

And another prairie price check. JaBes, don't you know its not worth arguing with the few that always have to get their word in?

like using the bed of a truck as a coolship? how much should prairie/shelton increase the price for that technique?

I don't know where you guys are buying your Prairie, but I bought Noir variants for $8.50, Bomb for $8 and FGM for $9. I think prices here are getting inflated to prove a point. I'm betting Barrel Aged Bomb! will be around the $9 mark. If not, it will be bought once and it will sit on the shelves like all the other Noirs and I'll be able to pick them up whenever the mood strikes me.
