Beer is the least of it. From NYT

But he also spent a significant portion of his address defending Qatar’s treatment of migrant laborers, the workers hired from some of the poorest corners of the planet to rebuild the desert state in a decade-long buildup to the first Arab World Cup. Thousands of workers have died in that period, according to human rights groups — Qatar has repeatedly disputed those claims — after working long hours in intense heat and other harsh conditions.

Infantino branded such criticism as “hypocrisy” and “moral lesson-giving” from a part of the world that should remember its own history. At one point, he even drew an equivalence between Qatar’s treatment of migrant workers and other endangered groups like gays and women with the long are of western history.

“I think for what we Europeans have been doing around the world for the last 3,000 years, we should be apologizing for the next 3,000 years, before starting to give moral lessons,” Infantino said.

He appeared to liken his own experience as a redheaded child of immigrants to Switzerland to the plight of gays in the Middle East, and defended the laws and customs of the host country.

Europeans? We buy ressources from them.

And all of a sudden we discover they don’t like gays and mistreat women.

Infantino can get fucked along with his grandstanding apologize stance. Do I need to remind some of the comments made by one of his non mysogynistic predecessor - namely Sepp Blatter?

The FIFA is a joke, and it’s only going to get worse.

I hope there are huge lawsuits between these big money groups such as FIFA and ABINBev. Hope neither groups is happy at the end .

nfl, fifa, mlb, the Olympics and the rest have all done some ho shit in one way or another.
people will pat themselves on the back for posting a comment about how outraged they are online then find themselves cheering for their favorite team in the end.

Been saying this a couple years now and with their current acquisition of the sport Golf, the Saudis will own FIFA also in the next 10 years. Quote me.

It will be a great day indeed if they ever get fusion figured out and running with no involvement from energy pricks. But that's asking too much.

“Budweiser has a long-running partnership with FIFA that began during the 1986 World Cup. The beer brand pays millions of dollars every football World Cup to secure the exclusive rights to sell beer.”

Will AB InBev be getting some of its millions back?

    Cheers!

Yep. Someone has to pay. This thread is truly about the obvious massive breach of contract btwx FIFA & Ib InBev. A Bud spokesperson used the word "awkward" to describe the move by Qatar. Didn't anyone from Bud tell FIFA months ago: "Hey, the WC host country doesn't accept alcohol all too well and this could be a potential issue. Have you considered it?" I'm not taking sides here, just sayin'.

Yes. It's unclear if those suites are independently owned somehow and are perhaps exempt from "stadium rules" thru a permit or something like that. The plot thickens...

I read somewhere that Bud Zero will still be sold.

Can you imagine the behavior of the fans when they find out they're paying stadium beer prices for water?

It’s in a desert. Water is priceless.

They were aware and Qatar had signed off on it, but reneged two days before the cup essentially daring FIFA to something. However, Qatar has their balls in a vice as they know who got paid off what to get the cup and would be more than willing to expose the corrupt FIFA members if FIFA wants to push the alcohol issue.
The geopolitics in the Mideast really necessitate a domestic and global push to get away from the Petro-drug-lords.

It's likely this was the plan of the "host country authorities" all along. Agree to any WC terms initially and then change direction right at the end.

It won’t stop at beer. They will change a lot of things they agreed to. Same with the teams. FIFA mandated a set of slogans for team captains armbands and Europe is already saying they are going to wear their own unapproved message on their captains bands. There is going to be a lot of sneaky civil disobedience from the visiting teams much to the chagrin of FIFA and Qatar and it will be fun the see how they react to this. My prediction is Qatar will do some crazy things during the cup that prompt civic minded countries to demand their nationals teams pull out of Qatar and that the final will be played in a different country.

Big thumbs up to all the (mostly) European countries that will have their captains wear a rainbow armband. Wish more would follow suit.

As for the beer situation, it has happened before so it's not unique to this event, but it gets more attention because Qatar is a Muslim country. The issue here is that you cannot announce this just 2 days before the event. That's the part that's totally BS.

FIFA has been corrupt since it’s inception.

World Cup bids have been corrupt and match results also also fixed.

No need to watch a second. Brazil has already been named by FIFA as the winner of the tournament.

Just as France was the predetermined winner in 2018, years before this video was released.

    • Brazil won in 2002 for fixed loss to host France in 1998.
    • Italy won in 2006 for fixed loss to host Korea in 2002.
    • Spain won in 2010 for fixed loss to host Korea in 2002.
    • Germany won 2014 for fixed loss to Brazil in 2002.
    • France has won in 2018 (video posted in 2015) for agreed upon loss to italy in 2006.
    • Brazil will win 2022 for agreed upon loss to France in 2006.
    And the beat goes on….
