Mexico is the lone host they would consider reaching the finals among the trio, though FIFA will do their best to have Canada and the United States have some semblance of success regardless of talent level.

How fitting for Qatar to kick off the proceedings with their $7.4M purchased win, a bargain when compared to the FIFA bribes required to host the tournament in the first place. Well played.

As an avid footy (soccer) fan, and also someone who has actually attend World Cup games in 2002 I am really no surprised by this at all.

As much I enjoy this tournament more than any sporting even in the world, I am expecting it to be completely overshadowed and turned into a cluster F.

FIFA makes the IOC look like saints.

I'm sure they did their homework, promises were made and broken.
I think someone didn't receive the suitcase full of money they were looking forward to.

No, they DID receive the suitcase full of money which is why the Emir can do what he wants. “We are going to stop selling beer. If you have an issue with it maybe your name will find its way into the international press with how much we bribed you for the WC.”

After watching the replay of opening game's "first" goal scored by Ecuador ruled to be offside by VAR:-1:, how can the "third" goal scored not be offside either:grimacing:, the fix started 8 years ago when S.Blatter :nauseated_face:award the games to Qatar and shall continue till (insert team here) is awarded the cup via a bullshit:poop:call , as a long time viewer of World Cup's since the '74 West Germany version , be glad you are at home drinking whatever beer you want and not an over priced AnBev offering , it will be tough to drink a beer at 2am , 5am , 8am or 11am PST

I have so much to be thankful for as we come into the thankful season.

    1. Elon Musk shoveling money into a wood chipper at billionaire speed. Fascinating.
    2. Mark Zuckerburg lighting billions on fire as he tries to convince people they need a really cool headset from 1992. Impressive.
    3. And Qatar openly bribing very corrupt people in an effort to prove they are not an antiquated hell hole, only to prove they are also a very corrupt hell hole. Good job!
    4. AB InBev looking at losing a few billion because their lawyers could not understand that they have precisely zero sales in Qatar for a reason everyone knew. Genius.
Thanks you God for I am truly blessed.

I saw a response from Qatar on Twitter two days ago.

They deflected the accusation and just plainly stated that everyone giving them a hard time is killing the planet and to enjoy the next 30 years.

    Mic drop.

    From CNN:

"Budweiser will ship the unsold Buds to the country that wins the tournament, the company said in a tweet. The company confirmed the plans in a statement to CNN Business, writing that it “wants to bring this celebration from the FIFA World Cup stadiums to the winning country’s fans.”

What if the country that wins also bans beer?

Well, that would be an 'interesting' development.

Maybe they will decline the offer of free Bud regardless of their stance on alcohol? Would Germany want a bunch of Bud beers?

    Cheers!

Enough consumers (especially collectors) would probably love to have the WC beer in Germany (or any other country). A problem might be labeling?? Maybe add a sticker to conform to local rules.

And are they offering only Bud at the World Cup? Not even Goose Island? Restricted choice by the brewer, and more restrictions by Qatar. For the typical BA denizen at WC, not worth the effort to even try to get a beer.

What if a country that already has a beer named Budweiser (e.g. the Czech Republic) wins it? Will there be litigation against AB-InBev for trademark infringement? Hope springs eternal.

Conveniently the Czech Rep. did not qualify for this World Cup. But this is pretty lame. Shipping all the unsold beer to the winner? Germany would have next to zero interest. England? I'm sure some Midlands or Essex chavs would love it. Spain? They already have Mahou. Argentina or Brazil? Actually that might work.

In a stunning reversal two days before the start of the first game, FIFA has banned sobriety from the 2026 World Cup and made drinking Budweiser manadatory for any fans entering the stadium. This has caused quite the consternation for soccer fans including Muslims, pregnant women, parents of small children, emotional support animals and the anti-gluten society. FIFA’s commissioner states “We have no choice and must respect the cultural norms of the host nation.”

Hmm, maybe your son will teach you some arithmetic!?!

Pop, with six-packs you get more beer (72 ounces vs. 64 ounces) and the bonus is the breweries charge you less for more beer.

They have already lost a ton of money. They spent $200 billion getting ready for this event including building 8 high end stadiums which they have no use for after the event ends. The $75 mil Bud paid to be the office sponsor is pocket change when you are wasting the kind of money Qataris have.

I think it was a lot more than 200 right? I thought I heard 800something, when you factor in all of the infrastructure they had to build out separate from just the stadiums (which should hopefully be beneficial after the World Cup, unlike the stadiums).
