Huh?! You mean when I buy a 16oz can at 5-7$ I'm being overcharged?! Shocking!

You think? Soccer has become huge in the Arab countries and they certainly have the money to lure some of the aging stars who want one last big pay day before retirement; just recently there have been reports of some Saudi Arabian club willing to pay 200 million per year for 37 year old Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cool! I always did like Butkus and Gale Sayers!

Good thing they didn't let the Cocaine Bear play.

No one of any value is going to play in Qatar when you can go to jail for having premarital sex. If this law applied to the rest of the world we’d run out of football players who weren’t in jail. Qatar is dismantling one stadium after the tournament and converting at least one other into a civic center. As for Ronaldo going to Saudi? Is his wife okay with being a 2nd class citizen as a woman in Saudi? I doubt she’ll okay that move.

People making 200 million per year don't have the burden of having to live where they work.

    Ha, yes you are!
I used to do that when I was about that age. I'd get up early and raid the dregs from any bottle left out over night.

More likely he'd play his games between zooms of a private jet's engine

This was aimed at the poster who selective quoted me and didn’t even manage to do so well.

Not against you, sorry if I sound rude but this post was frankly dumb.

Those teams don't play well enough to actually win the World Cup.

A World Cup without beer, and you guys are surprised the Germans and Belgians are already back home?

And unfortunately the USMNT as well. :slight_frown:

Maybe the team members are all craft beer drinkers and the thought of obtaining free Budweiser was not motivating!?! :grimacing:

"Serious money" means something different to Qatar than it does to FIFA or ABInbev. $47M might be noticed by AB and even FIFA (more than a rounding error). It's pocket change to Qatar. Qatar spent about $230 Billion on the World Cup, so to cough up another $47 Million to cover AB losses would be about 0.02% of the entire investment.

Most avid soccer/football fans in Qatar would be the guest workers that are common in the nation. They wouldn't have the money or the free time to attend any games, either during or after the World Cup WC. The Qatar cheering section at the WC was imported. It was composed of (real) soccer fans brought in from other Arab countries. Qatar paid transportation, housing, and stipends for these fans to act as Qatar supporters.

Those stadiums will not get much (if any) use after the WC.
