I was walking to work the other day and walked into a small beer store to check it out. On top of the fridge with a ton of other beers was Raison d' Extra. All the bottles had a little dust on them and with it being retired, I figured it had been up there for a little while. I know it's got 18% abv so it's not bad, but I doubt it's been under the best conditions. I asked the guy how much/if they were selling it and he said $18.99. Being a younger guy and not exactly making a ton of cash, I was hesitant because of various reasons. But as I walked to work, I thought of how it's going to be damn hard to find another one. Should I pull the trigger? Offer $15 so I feel better? Thanks.

I had a 07 bottle in the past 6 months. It wasn't great. Fairly oxidized, flat, and a little musty.
Kept in near ideal conditions for most of its life.
I drank one at a little over 2 years old and it was great, but 5 was too much...My advice would be to skip this one for that price.

I wouldn't pay more than $10, and I probably wouldn't even pay that. I had one a couple of years ago and it was stupid hot, almost like a rum and coke with way too much rum.

Most I have ever paid for the high gravity offerings from DFH was $13 for WWS. I thought it was really good, but not $13/12oz good.

I found a bottle of '07 for $8 or $9 a year or so ago, so that price seems really steep. For what it's worth, I think I found it kind of tasty, kind of a mess.

I've had 3 bottles of this total. All 2007's, same batch, good storage. I had one in 2010, one in 2011, and one last week. The first two were far better than the last. While I still love it, with all it's dark fruits, it was oxidized and definitely past it's prime. Not worth $19 imho.

My thoughts exactly. Definitely not worth the price, with the conditions it's probably been through. Even without the conditions. Thanks for the help.

I'd say it's worth it, from a novelty standpoint. You pay double the price for beers that aren't 1/10th as weird as D'extra is.

I paid 10 bucks a piece for a couple of bottles last year. I don't think it is worth $18. I would bet someone would be willing to make you a fair trade for a bottle.
