    Hola North Carolinians!

I'll be vacationing in your fine state next week and am on the hunt for a few good beers. Will be in Raleigh this Friday, August 15, and am heading on to the coast near Wilmington on the following day. Looking for any pointers about great bottle shops in Raleigh and Wilmington and for any must-see bars/breweries in Wilmington area. Could possibly be persuaded to pull off I-40 elsewhere (Greensboro??) to make a fruitful stop. I'm a huge fan of fresh IPAs, well-executed wilds and saisons, and the occasional stout and barleywine. Any helpful hints for finding great local brews in these veins would be much appreciated!

Here are a few places I'm looking to visit:

    Bottle Revolution - Raleigh
    Tasty Beverage Co - Raleigh
    Total Wine - NE Raleigh
Lighthouse Beer and Wine - Wilmington

We are staying in NE Raleigh (just south of the I540/Hwy 401 intersection) and I'd especially like to find things near that area.

Here are a few beers I'm specifically ISO:
    Oude Quetsche Tilquin
    Oude Gueuze Tilquin
    Wicked Weed Serenity
    NODA Hop Drop 'n' Roll
    Natty Greene wild ales

Don't know if I'm likely to find any of the above anywhere, but would appreciate any help. Would also be down for an IP trade. Can bring a few Upland sours, some local TN beer including a well-rated BA stout, and possibly a Jester King bottle or two. Can discuss via PM what I have and what, beyond the list above, I'm ISO (mostly lambic or high quality wild ales).

    Cheers!

    John

You can definitely find Serenity in Raleigh but none of the others you listed are available at this time. Tasty Bev is my go to bottle shop. Let me know if you need any other suggestions of maybe set up a trade.

Bottleshops - Bottle Revolution. It depends on what day you get there, but wicked weed usually comes in on Thursdays around noon. 5 day old WW Freak of Nature is on tap right now. They also have a great selection of sours and saisons.

Downtown Raleigh, go to Trophy Brewing, grab some pizza and drink the current tap list they have on right now and thank me later. They are killing it.

Busy Bee also has a great selection.

    Cheers

Serenity, Genesis, and Bretticent from Wicked Weed are all available around Raleigh now (Tasty has cases sitting around). Tilquin I haven't seen for a couple weeks, especially Quetsche which goes fast.

Wicked Weed Freak can usually be found on tap around town and fits your need for fresh IPAs. People never talk about Lynnwood Grill's Hop on Top, but I'd try it if you come across it.

I always highly recommend Ridgewood in Raleigh. Not as big a selection as other bottle shops around town, but best prices, friendly people, and 16 taps.

Tasty, Bottle Rev, and Ridgewood all have up-to-date tap lists on their websites (Tasty and BR keep updated stock lists as well).

As for Wilmington, I'd add Fermental to your list. Neat little bottle shop in a house with a backyard area.

You've got a pretty good list already, but if you have time, jump off I-40 in Greensboro and go to Bestway. You won't find a better selection in the state.

They'll have all the Wicked Weed stuff, and I'm pretty sure I saw Oude Gueze Tilquin last time I was there (no Questche though). They also randomly get HDnR but you'll have to get lucky because it disappears same day, pretty much.

Give them a call the day you're coming through and ask if Leslie is there (she usually is until 5-6 PM), and ask her what on your list is available, she'll know. Also ask what's on the growler station, sometimes they have some amazing shit back there.

On your way into Raleigh you may want to skip 540 and stay on 40, and hit Bottle Revolution, Ridgewood, and Tasty before getting to where you are staying. After hitting the bottle shops take 401 up to 540. All three of those bottle shops are very close to 40, probably about 20 minutes from 540 / 401. There is a Total wine in the 540 / 401 area.

Im quite certain Fermental in Wilmington is sold out of the Tilquin stuff, but they had a large stock of WW Serenity last I was there.

If you are coming via I-40 a quick stop in Winston might help you out, I think Stella may have the Tilquin you are looking for, just ask Matt or Chris.

HdR is hard to come by these days, NoDa has pulled all distro to just Charlotte, so if you call ahead and are willing to add the extras 1.5 hour to your drive, either stop at the brewery (2 4-pack limit when they have it) or a couple of the stores around like Salude which usually keep a fair amount in stock.

Also the shops in Winston (Stella and CityBev) should have most of the WW you are looking for, Black Angel, Malice, Serenity, Genesis, Oblivion and some TakeTake, Hipster and Passaflora.

Be sure to stop at Bestway in Greensboro. It's an easy stop off I-40 and well worth the effort. Some of your wants and much more.

NoDa has never distributed Hop Drop outside of the Charlotte market. Bottle shops in Asheville and the Triangle go and pick up cases from them directly. But I think you'll see more Hop Drop in a few weeks. They've added some tanks and I believe secured the additional citra hops they needed for more volume.

They deliver to "select" places in Raleigh. And when I say select, I mean about 2 locations. HDR should be around in a month or so in raleigh. we'll see.
