So over the past couple of years I have become a big IPA/DIPA fan, and I have tried most of the "big names". My struggle has been to find a sold DIPA from a local brewery in the Raleigh, NC area that can compete with the well known highly rated national DIPA's. The only local DIPA I had tried, until yesterday, that could come close was Lynnwood's Hubris (great beer). But that all changed yesterday. After getting a workout in my friend and I decided to run to Trophy Brewing and I had the chance to try their Double Death Spiral DIPA. Wow what a great beer!! Very hazy appearance, a fruity while still grassy/floral dankness in the nose. And the taste was incredible, mango fruitiness, with a slight hint of dankness on the back end. If you live or are ever in the Raleigh, NC area and Trophy Brewing has this on tap give it a try. This beer deserves some recognition!!

For those who have tried it I would love to hear your thoughts, I'm a newb when it comes to trying to describe a beers smell & taste.

DDS is a very good beer (as are all of Trophy's offerings). But Hubris is the best hoppy beer in Raleigh IMO and possibly all of NC.

Yeah, I would like to try Hubris again. I tried it a couple years ago before I had many IPA's/DIPA's under my belt.

Double Death Spiral is legit. Pairs really well with a lot of their pizzas. Plus the name awesome. I'm getting thirsty...

I will admit that I haven't had this current batch of DDS though, but I plan to do so today and will report back promptly!

The last couple batches of Hubris really have been bad ass though. These are definitely the only 2 legit DIPAS in Raleigh. Trophy is the best overall brewery in town, but Lynnwood does all their hoppy stuff really well.

Yeah, I could imagine with a small brewery like Trophy that each batch could vary a little.

I mean honestly I think that's the case with most hoppy beers, no matter what the size of the brewery.

Had a DDS yesterday and loved it, definitely a notch above what I remember. Hubris is still #1 for me, but obviously it's not available very often.

Had Double Death Spiral yesterday for the first time at Hickory Hops. Granted it was a festival so tough to fairly judge, but it really made me sit up a take notice. Pretty awesome beer!

Hubris is an excellent beer. It's the best hoppy beer I've had from NC and on par with the best IPAs I've had. I'll keep on the lookout for Double Death Spiral.
With Hubris, the aroma jumps out of the glass. I wonder what they're doing differently?

Is that a brewery/keg only offering, of do they bottle/can it?

DDS: Brewery only at this point. I'd imagine they'll start canning/bottling in the future with their recent expansion plans.

I'm sure it's available in their 32 oz growlers too.

If you're talking about Hubris, it has been bottled once (the most recent batch, about 2 months ago I think) and a few shops got about a case each. The same shops will generally get 1 or 2 kegs of it per batch, but it always goes really fast. However, the draft usually lasts at the restaurant for a number of weeks and you can get growlers of it there as well. They also had some bottles there at the restaurant for sale, but they were also 1 per person just like at the shops.

If you're talking about DDS, I don't think that one has been bottled before. You can get growlers of it at Trophy though unless it's running low and you will see a keg of it pop up sometimes at their other spots in town Busy Bee or State of Beer.

I found DDS to be good but not close to Hubris or other great NC IPAs - Hop Drop & Roll, Freak of Nature, etc.

I just saw that this was on today when I was showing my friend whos visiting which breweries were options. She doesnt like hoppy beers, so I may have to force her to go to Trophy.

Drinking a 4/9 canning of HDR and its truthfully a drain pour. I'd guess this to be 8 month old beer date unknown, glad I only bought a 4 ok. Talk about malty, yuck.
