did you try it, I thought it was just okay
Nope - still in the fridge......
I will grab a few more after reading all of these post, but to me it was very BB1 had some good qualities but not worth the $
Ah.. if you don't love it.. then don't worry about grabbing more.. just spend that money on something you'll love or something you haven't tried yet.
Yeah but all of the 16 is gone might as well buy up all of the stuff you guys love
I don't know if I love it... haven't tried it yet.. but hope to soon.
I did like BB1 quite a bit... so if they are similar then good times for me...
When I say BB1 I mean that there are parts of it that are amazing, BB1 had the perfect nose, was a bit thin but still really good, SB4 did the same for me, had some attributes that were brilliant, others were left to be fixed for next time. BB1 was solid for the first release, cant wait to see what else comes out of that room for sure....
Plenty of 4 around Austin... if any Houston folk are planning to come to Austin in the near future and want me to hold some for them, just let me know.
Had this tonight and it was really good. Really easy to drink
Hopefully this will stick around Houston through the weekend. I just need a couple more days.
Got 2 bottles of 4 yesterday from kings.
Specs Midtown has 15 cases and Brandon over at D&Q still has 5 cases left... and its been out for 10 days, so I doubt its going anywhere. Also available at Specs Sugarland. Only 3 places in Houston that got it.
Thanks for the information. I will definitely be hitting up Spec's Midtown or D&Q this weekend.
Oh okay. I can't imagine it's gone but the way everybody was talking it seemed like it was already gone. I'd like to find another SB 1 but I honestly can't remember how it tasted. haha
About 5-6 of these left at FW Kings. $7.99 is kinda steep but I nabbed 3
I'm going to get one or two tomorrow hopefully.
Wish it would hit somewhere in the Clear Lake area..
I chilled mine before I left for work tonight... gonna try it this morning when I get home. Will report back.
Drank one last night. Barrel is subtle...tempers the smoke of the base beer in a good way. I recommend getting a bottle of the base beer to try as a side by side (I will be sending that combo out as extras in my next few boxes)
I really got a lot of the smoke in both the smell and the aftertaste in my bottle. Carbonation was perfect on it (~2 fingers). Bourbon was definitely on the nose and the front of the tongue.
Very complex and delicious beer. Loved it. Bought the shirt. (alright, there is no shirt)
Anyone seen this up north (Round Rock area) recently? I need to get one for a trade.
CM Westgate just got another 5 cases. Great stuff this.
West Houston still has none that I've seen.
Try driving outside of west houston. Specs midtown and DQ had a ton last time i went.
Any Houston sightings of Small Batch 3, I would like to try the barleywine too.
You can order it from Binny's
D&Q has it, or I can grab u some bottles if u like and hold onto them till next time I see ya...
Note: This beer is even better if you sip on Ranger Creek bourbon beforehand.
Finally tried it...liked it... didn't love it... but it's worth seeking out. I'm not a big smoked Porter fan though, so that is probably most of it.
Either that's some seriously sour whiskey or we have an infection. Very average and over priced.
I think average is being considerate. I've had the beer 2 times and both times it had a very noticeable sour taste to it typically not found in BA beers unless...
To each their own though, it's always nice to see a TX brewery being supported.
I saw quite a few left at Specs Midtown on Thursday evening
^this. I got zero whiskey out of the beer. I was extremely dissappointed as I like their whiskey and want them to do big things. Oh well glad I didn't stock up before trying it. I think 3 is my favorite by far.
Uh, I've had two bottles of this and I detected no sour... and plenty of bourbon barrel.
Then again Chuk told me that his bottle was flat and mine was perfect.
Add to list of things Texas Craft brewers need: Quality Control.
Definitely this. My experience with the Small Batch series has been a series of disappointments. What I've tasted hasn't match what some people have said. #3 was sour with diacetyl and #4 was flat and lacked bourbon.
That is Ranger Creek. I can't remember the last time I had a non infected, or off beer from them. I have almost completely stopped buying. Even non barrel aged stuff can be infected. I am a huge bourbon guy as well. Though I am really not a fan of theirs either.
Third times a charm, boys! Got me a sour bourbon smoked porter!
Did you purchase them all together?
This one was from Rosedale Market. Others were from Central Market.
I knew I wasn't crazy After the first one I had I was trying to figure out why people thought it was good. I don't want to say I'm happy to see that other people are experiencing it but it's nice to know I'm not the only one (other than Matt, Dave and Josh).
Grabbed a small batch 3 from specs and it was soured up as well. First from the small batch 3 or 4 I have had that was infected. The non-infected ones were delicious though.
