I have a pale ale in primary at the moment. It will be in there two weeks this coming Friday. I took a sample to take a gravity reading today and noticed a really thick layer of krausen still on top of the beer. I've never had anything like this before after this length of time in the primary. Sample was very cloudy but tasted fine. Gravity is at 1.010. Did anybody have a similar experience whith WLP001?

    Cheers

Can't say that I've seen this with WLP001, but if your gravity is where you expected, and the taste/aroma is fine, I wouldn't sweat it.

I have had a similar experience with nearly every yeast I use. I only brew ales so I do not know about lagers, but that is totally normal.
edit: 2weeks- you may want to look at your pitching rates. could be taking a bit longer from underpitching.

Thanks for the replies. Definitely didn't underpitch. It's all up the sides of the bucket too so I guess it must have been a vigorous fermentation. Probably wouldn't blink say after a week, but this is unusual for me after two weeks. It was very thick and gloopy.

I too notice teh kremey crausen with WLP001.
Looks fookin'ugly but since it makes tasty ales...what's not to like about it?
