    Hi everyone,

My cousin had asked me if I knew of any beer of the month clubs that he could sign his father up for as an Xmas gift?

He does not want to pay $500 or anywhere around that price. Also he would be fine with a sixer per month as opposed to 12. I am not as familiar with the clubs but I know it's hard to stump the BA.

Any insight would be much appreciated and happy holidays to all of you.

    Thank you,

Dude. Do the Rare Beer Club if you're gonna do anything...

    http://www.beermonthclub.com/join-or-give-a-gift-membership.htm

They have a variety of levels. Don't like the beers? F-it. Skip that month. Missed a beer? Cool. They'll send you that if they still have it. The 6-bottle at $70 is a deal and a half considering the cost of the beers that they usually send. You can go as low as $33 for 2 bottles a month (plus shipping, of course)

This month is The Bruery 5 Golden Rings and a 2010 Vintage of Rodenbach.

    I'd be a member if Texas allowed. I was in Florida. But alas... ;_;

They also do 12oz bottles if you're interested in that. Duck Rabbit & Schmaltz of the month it seems.

I live in Texas, and have been a member for over a year. Never had any problems getting my beer shipped.. Just a thought if you wanted to join. Texas beer laws are a pain sometimes..

I would suggest NOT doing Amazing Clubs (http://www.amazingclubs.com/beer.html), the beers were mediocre at best (Joe Mamas Milk was the only exception). In fact of the 16 beers (seasonal membership) I received 2 of them were 'light lagers' and 2 were local brews, pretty disappointing. I don't want to sound ungrateful as it was a very nice and thoughtful gift, I just feel like there must be some better options out there.

The Rare Beer Club sounds interesting, has anyone kept a log anywhere of the beers they have received? I'd like to see an example of some of the beers that have gone out. The option to skip months is also pretty awesome.

some pretty pedestrian beers in this club. Many are readily available for less and some are not worth getting. Some of the rare beers are not too rare and are also available at much less money.

If you do not trade and want an easy steady stream of different beers this looks ok. I would rather go to whole foods and grab 4 different six pack for the same price

    Enjoy

On their website. Pretty amazing. Fantome Magic Ghost, Rodenbach 2010 Vintage, etc.

I've been going at it for a year and a half.

I know they make convenient gifts, but none of them are worth it, and they're all expensive because of shipping. Even the Rare Beer Club is stuff that hits at least regional distro, and much of it isn't even as good as what you can pickup at your local store nowadays.

I''ve done the rare beer club for about a year and a half.
    I've only skipped 2 or 3 beers.
This month I got some Jesteer King that is not distributed in NJ.

It is not cheap but I am enjoying it.

You can skip any shipment and not be charged.

Don't get discouraged if the first month you don't get what the current offering is, if its limited sometimes they only get enough for current accounts. If you are concerned about it, email them.

Which reminds me, when I signed up, they had Jolly Pumpkin - Lupulo de Helio and I didn't get any for that exact reason. :slight_frown:

Most beers ship the third week of the month, they put the new selections for each month up on the website as the calendar rolls over to the next month. Once you're a member though, they email you each month in advance and tell you ahead of time, usually the last week of the month, so any day now for me, and give a chance to skip, substitute, or even add on to your order.

    "Selections You Can Age

Many selections will offer high enough hop acidities and ABVs to allow them to be laid down and aged. Members can easily reorder their favorite selections, set them aside, and see how they've matured in months and even years to come."

    That makes me nervous.

While its typically the case that no one will (legally) ship to TX, in this case it seems that they must meet some sort of exception:

"We ship our Wine and Beer clubs to all states except Utah, Alaska, and Hawaii."

I'm pretty sure anyone buying from them will know not to do that. They do ship them to you horizontal, but I've never had an issue.

I think they ship through a distributor. My UPS notifications always say "Federal Fulfillment" and this is the first thing that shows up on google for that. http://www.federalfulfillment.com/
