What's the beef that everyone has with Rogue? I've had a handful of their beers, and I've enjoyed them. I've heard their business practices can be upsetting, and they might not show their customers love like other breweries do. At the same time, their beers seem to be respected by some folks and they have some pretty loyal fans.

Can you fill me in on why you love/hate Rogue?

For me: Lower-than-average quality/taste, higher-than-average prices (not always, but quite often), and an annoying habit of bottling the same beers in several different bottles under several different names (more headaches for those tickers among us)...

I do kinda like their branding, though...

Rouge is middle of the road for me. Enjoyable, but nonessential. I've always liked Dead Guy Ale

The pacman yeast sucks, and they use it in everything, so their beer blows. Add in high prices, and you've got your answer.

I would be so fucking embarrassed if I released a beer that tasted like that voodoo doughnut turd.

High prices. Average/below average beers (with a couple of exceptions). I personally do not care for their house yeast strain. There are far superior beers in every style they make that are far more affordable.

Also, being a resident of the PNW, I've visited a few of their establishments and have, without fail, found the employees to be surly and/or uninformed.

Pricey IMO for middle of the road as already mentioned.

I can't say I've really had anything that I would get excited to go back to.

anyone else read this and think that Rogue made something else on par with Voodoo Donut?

OP - its just that there are so many things to try, and it seems like Rogue just doesnt stand out to me. I try to try their stuff, but id much rather grab something local or from my home area of OH.

I though it was a decent job considering ingredients. Nice gimmick

It's been a while since I've bought any of their beer but I don't really have a problem with them. My favorites of theirs though happen to be the Chocolate and Oatmeal stouts but there are too many other equally tasty or better stouts out there so I often overlook them.

I like Rogue, don't love them.

They make good beers, but not great- I can get better for their price. That being said, they were one of the breweries whose beers I always sought out when I was getting into craft, so they do hold a special place in my heart. I still have their beers from time to time and still like them, and probably always will.

By the way, Shakespeare Stout is excellent.

I think their beer is overpriced for just average quality.

While Rogue makes some beers I like, and I love the Hazlenut Nectar, most of their brews are in the Meh range. Add in the fact they use a yeast many of us don't care for, are proud to be the industry leader in pricing, rebranding the same beer under different names and a sometimes tiresome marketing scheme, and you folks who get tired of them. They do sell a lot of beer though (IIRC around 25th on the craft beer sales list last year), so obviously some folks love their stuff.

I thought HaterSauce might be the name of the Beard yeast beer. Oh, wait while I go trademark that so Rogue can give me royalty checks.

I think it'd be hysterical of Rogue went on to make a beer called HaterSauce.

I love their Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout and Hazelnut Nectar. Dead Guy is solid.

The rest is, at best, average and boring.
