LIC beer project lead brewery Anthony Sorice left LIC and is starting Root + Branch brewing - a nomadic brewing project with roots bound to Long Island NY. They are part of the 12 percent family along with evil twin, Stillwater, omnipollo, decadent, __, etc.

Anybody know, was this the head head brewer there at LIC? If so that is shocking bc that was my fav NYC brewer and could be a big change.

They will be launching their beers on tap across a few NYC bars next week. Sounds very promising.

My old coworkers are throwing me a going away party at Tap and Barrel on the night of their event. Really looking forward to trying the Hudson Valley collab.

The Sand City collab from them is also very good.

Anthony here. For about the last year and a half, I brewed about 85% of the beer that was coming out of LICBP.

Just a heads up for y’all - due to super low yield, the HVB collab will only be pouring at Haymaker/Proletariat/Tørst. I’ll be updating via IG shortly.

I may have missed this on IG or elsewhere but has there been a description put out about details around this collaboration? I only see that it is a sour IPA

Don’t fret! Although we would’ve loved to have it pour alongside all of the other collabs at all of the events, a good amoun of cans will be floating around. Also, I’m going to be bringing a bunch of fun vintage bottles from my cellar to the Sheep and Tap to share with whomever would like a pour. Find me!

Yes, cans of “Dead Men on Holiday” will be popping up around the city and LI. Most likely early next week. I’ll do my best to keep y’all informed, as to where they’ll be going.

At Haymaker now, Dead Men is super juicy and crushable, I look forward to picking some up when it’s distributed. The HVB collab is also fantastic. Well done.

Just left Haymaker....beer was incredibly good. HVB collab kicked before I could get seconds but it was my favorite sour IPA I’ve had by them. Folksbier collab may have been the best pale I’ve ever had. Tried all 5 beers and loved them all. These guys are going to be making great beer for a long time.

It’s an homage to my former philosophy professor, Paul Mattick Jr.. In many ways he became a mentor of sorts, while I was a student. Before I landed my first brewing job, I was studying Soviet history and philosophy, and had planned on completing a PhD in the former. A great deal of my MA thesis (and would have been dissertation) focused on subject matter that I began studying as an undergrad student with Paul. After I finished undergrad and transitioned to Brooklyn College for my Masters program, I continued to study with Paul - all of my days off from grad school were spent attending his courses and various panel discussions. Root & Branch was a liberatarian-socialist literary journal/group that Paul started with some friends, while he was a graduate student at Harvard. For about 10 years, they published pamphlets, books and magazines.

Edible LI just put out a pretty informative article on my background, along with my partners. I’m sure it’ll answer a lot of questions some of you may have.

Very interesting thank you! Been a while since I've read Kropotkin, Bakunin, Goldman, and of course, Chomsky, et al., but I've still retained some libertarian-socialist leanings myself, since college.

Had a great time at Haymaker last night. It was great to try everything in one place! As others have said, the Hudson Valley collab is the winner for sure, but the Sand City beer was right behind it. Will all future cans make it to the city?

“We want to make sure everything is right about the beer before anything else” – A careful approach entering the craft: thought-out, partnership development, location, time-sensitivity/compromising with gypsy brewing, current focus with refermentation in the foreseeable future…

    …Now those SHB vertical(s)

I believe he meant SHPH. I have a couple of verticals and a hefty collection of old Southampton releases going back to 2001. I'm going to open all of them at the brewery's grand opening.

Everything still on tap at Haymaker except for the HV collab. Folksbier collab is the winner for me. Zippy little pale ale. Definitely my speed. Delicious stuff.

Went to Torst with a friend yesterday - everything was delicious. Powers, Roots, and Radicals had a unique candy flavor to it, and Dead Men On Holiday was juicy and supremely dank. An Outstanding Contribution was probably my favorite.

Are you sure it's the UES location that got it? I went there yesterday, and the workers didn't know what I was talking about. Plus, it wasn't in their system.

FWIW, my experience with the UES Milk and Hops is that the workers never really know what is going on, and the beers go on the shelf a few days after most other places.
