    Hey everybody,

So i recently tried FW Wookey Jack Black Rye IPA and loved it! I'm new to the style and wanted to know what other rye beers I should try. Black IPAs? Any suggestions?

    Thanks! :)

Drinking a Ruthless Rye now :) I'm sure everyone else will suggest the same although there are other good ones out there.

    Cheers!

If Boulevard is distributed where you are, Rye On Rye is excellent and out now.

I haven't had it yet but I'm wondering how the new Bell's rye beer compares to these?

FFF's "Rye'da Tiger" is one of the best I've had in a while.

I'll second Foudners, Hop Rod Rye, and Ruthless... Two Brothers Cane & Ebel and Sixpoint Righteous are two excellent examples not previously mentioned for a very underrated style...

Surlyfest is my favorite, but it's ridiculous how low of quantity is produced. Rye Wyne Ale is another great one from the good ol' state of Minnesota

He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's RIPA and Two Brothers Cane & Ebel are probably my faves since Red's Rye PA is no longer year-round..

Just tried Bell's Smitten the other day, and they nailed the rye aspect.

Look out for Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger, which should hit shelves this spring, it's great..

Tommyknocker Hop Strike Black Rye IPA isn't bad if you can get it fresh..

WOOKEY JACK! Not much of a rye character, but still...

    Also, Ruthless Rye.

Sixpoint Righteous - don't think I saw it mentioned. Rye'd Da Lighting is the best I have ever had, but it is no longer available. I have not had Rye'da Tiger yet, sadly.

And if you checked the list of Rye beers on BA, you wouldn't find it. Rye in the name but entered by a BA as a DIPA. Btw, I thought it was awesome and yeah, I did say this in my review: " Man, that rye really adds a great dimension to a DIPA.".

rye-on-rye, rugbrod, hop rod, ruthless, Jack's RIPL, red's rye and sixpoint righteous in that order. RIPL and Righteous are on the more sessionable end of the spectrum; hop rod and rugbrod are feasts for the senses (and rugbrod is just a sweet beer to have displayed on your shelf. That label rules). Ruthless is somewhere in the middle. And rye-on-rye... good lord.

For some reason, Red's Rye did not do it for me. When I want to taste rye I go for a great big hoppy bomb like Hop Rod or a hearty one like rugbrod. Red's does not assert itself enough in either direction, IMO.

Yeah man, I thought the rye was very pronounced in that one. Kinda surprised it's not in the rye category.

    I'm also in la.

No founders, no FFF, no jacks abbey, no bells. Those don't come out here.

Boulevard distributes some of the smokestack series out here, but not the Rye on Rye. But find the smokestack series anyway, they are killer.

And track down hop rod rye from bear republic. It rules.

Also a local brewery in Temecula called Black Market makes a killer Rye Ipa just called Rye Ipa. It's one of the best beers that no one knows about, and a remarkably good rye ipa.

A great bottle shop should have all of those. The one I frequent does.

    Cheers!

I also like Founder's Red's Rye. I've got a Wookey Jack sitting in the fridge. I can't wait to try it but I'm keeping it for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

I've been curious to know exactly which Boulevard beers are distributed in CA, and (more importantly) which ones aren't.

Smuttynose Ry(e)an. Awwww yeah. Similar to Boulevard rye-on-rye, it's a rye whiskey barrel aged rye beer. I think it's actually multiple barrel-aged if I remember.
