yank sing is ok. our SF office is in the same plaza so I've gone a few times. Pricey for what it is.

Mission Chinese used to be good. Now it is not.

Food in Chinatown can be pretty overrated. Let's just say that the best Chinese food in SF isn't there. Don't waste your time anywhere with a long line, sure sign of tourists, plus life is too short. There's plenty of decent places, though, so don't think too hard about it. If price is no object, go to Hakkasan, which is FiDi (Financial District) right next to Chinatown.

In Chinatown, I prefer grabbing stuff at the bakeries. Lots of options at these spots to pick and choose. Buns and dumplings and balls and so many things at Good Mong Kok or Golden Gate Bakery. Oh, baby. Grab a bag or two and enjoy while you walk around.

Thanks, I was leaning towards that option as well. Just walking around and sampling stuff.

    If you say so...

Honestly, OP, Chinatown is one of the least interesting parts of the city. If you go to the west side of town to see the beach and Golden Gate Park, there are tons of great Asian restaurants in the Sunset and Richmond neighborhoods.

If your new bride does want to sit down for Chinese food in Chinatown, you could check out Hang Ah Tea Room (small) or Great Eastern (huge -- Obama ate there and there are a million pics of him) for dim sum and noodles, R&G Lounge for traditional Cantonese style food, or Brandy Ho's or House of Nanking for spicy Hunan food.
